How will we ever get over the hump if this FO is gunshy?

Last off season was the only time I had ever bought into the whole premise selling tickets and merchandise is priority 1, championships are a distant second.

Coming off back to back 12 win seasons and being unwilling to pluck a premium free agent makes it appear they are happy with being relevant alone.

The model for this team is sustained winning seasons, not championships. Smh.

I'm not suprised, but irritated all the same. Prove me wrong Cowboys.
I don't think this is completely correct, as least as far as how the front office looks at it. The Joneses have made it clear that they do not believe you win by paying high prices for outside free agents. They believe the road to the Super Bowl is paved with solid drafting and FA fill-ins. They probably see back-to-back 12-win seasons as confirmation of their philosophy instead of seeing it as the reason the team has been unable to do more than that.

The rationale that kills me behind this philosophy is their willingness to over pay their own players, with lesser resumes.

If you can pay Jaylon or Zeke, you can pay Hargraves.

I believe the philosophy is 90% correct, but a piece or two would take this team over the top imo. They have over corrected.

It's not over, and I'm crying prematurely, but history says a lot.

That's the main reason I don't buy into their philosophy not including wanting to win. I don't think you give those big contracts to your own guys if you don't want to win. I just think their philosophy is sorely misguided.

The Joneses are reactive instead of proactive in free agency. If they lose a player, they will go out and sign a lesser player (usually to a one-year deal) to fill that gap until they can fill it longer term through the draft.

After all these years have we not learned that the Cowboys let everyone else feast and then they come back after the party and pick on the scraps?

Signing Dante Fowler is a decent move (if they get it done) but they need to get after the interior DL. I am pretty sure they will draft a CB and WR, and probably a RB. But I am also pretty sure they will not draft a DT until the 3rd round.

I think we get Wagner aswell. I also believe Jeudy will be a Cowboy. And if we are lucky Pitts aswell.
I could see us trading our pick 26 and a player for Pitts and there 2nd rounder

I don't get too stirred up over it anymore. It's the same strategy they've been using for years now. Maybe I'm numb to it now.

It is what it is, and I no longer expect us to improve during the free agency period. Best I expect is to hold serve and then maybe improve in the draft, but not enough to challenge the top contenders who improve through both free agency and the draft. I know some will see that as a defeatist attitude, but as a longtime fan, I'm just worn down now. Getting my hopes up just to have them dashed takes too big of a toll on me.

I wonder if a 3rd rounder a 5th Jalen Tolbert and J. Lewis would net us Jerry Jeudy?

Not defeatist, just realistic. Can't worry about things we can't control.

Oh? Is Jeudy a FA? I'd love to pair him with Lamb and Gallup. Especially if we can also keep Hilton. Our WR group would be devastatingly good.
