The depth of this year's draft is at RB, DT, Edge. Both the WR/off ball LB's lack depth and high-end talent.

#2 WR-almost forced to use our 1st rd pick at the position if not addressed in fa. Day 2 selections will not make a big enough impact and be much of an upgrade of what we currently have.

-Sign or trade for a veteran #2 starter. Players like Adams, Diggs, Kupp all can come at a discount and be very good compliments to Lamb. This also allows more developmental time for our younger prospects.

MLB-Kendricks is a fa and was only brought in to help with Zimmer's transition. Probably won't return. Marist is still a developing prospect and Overshown isn't expected to return next season. If this team truly wants to get better against the run, this is one of the positions you look to spend your resources.

-Sign a Type A free agent like the local Dallas Product Nick Bolton or Raiders tackling machine Spillane. Both are tremendous run defenders that do enough in coverage to stay on the field.

Corner-not many discuss this as a position of need. Look what happened last year when they were forced to start street fa's at the position. Diggs who has been discussed as a cap casualty to expected to miss time next season recovery from major injury, some even speculated he could be like Overshown and miss the entire season.

-Sign or trade for an experienced starting corner, like they did with Gilmore two seasons ago.

Secondary areas to consider:

NT-unfortunately Mazi Smith has progressed as we all have hoped. Has gotten better, but still remains a below average starter. They could look towards the draft to add another prospect, but they typicially take time to develop at the position. Signing a veteran like 49ers Hargrave would make a ton of sense. Can play either interior spots and take Mazi off the field against the pass.

DE-If DLaw/Golston both depart it opens up a huge hole at starting Left DE. Kneeland is still developing, cannot rely on Sam Williams at this point especially coming back from major injury. Kind of like WR, almost have to use a top pick to address this need. Matt Judon another Dallas local player could be a good short-term solution.

I've read the Rams will probably release Kupp so may be no.need for a trade. He does seem to be oft injured recently though. I'm all for Bolton but will believe it when I see it.

I genuinely feel bad for a good amount of people around here that somehow interpret the history of this FO, along with “selectively aggressive,” and “I’m not looking at FA to fill voids” to mean they are going to sign a handful of impact players.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I guess we are going to find out soon.

Very solid effort OP.

I'd start with my own and keep Jourdan Lewis and 1 of the SDE's. Golston or DLaw.
I'd offer Rush a deal that gave him bonuses for games played.
I'd be very tempted to bring Hendricks back. Felt like he was key to the few games to good defense we played last year. If he is interested, I'd do it.

FA:
Tre'von Moerig, Safety, 25 years old.
https://www.nfl.com/players/trevon-moehrig/
Dallas needs to move on from at least one of the safeties. Tre'von was a guy I targeted out of the draft that played his ball at TCU and is from Texas.
Big time playmaker that can cover a lot of ground and play man.
Former early pick of the Raiders who was brought in under another staff. Ripe for stealing IMHO.

Levi Onwuzurike, DT, 27 years old.
https://www.nfl.com/players/levi-onwuzurike/
Levi is from Allen, TX all of 10 minutes from The Star.
He has battled back injuries and probably can't play every down but is a really good option as a rotation player.
Will be tough to poach because they love him in Detroit but the injuries and his need to share reps should keep his salary in check and we are home.
Plays behind Osa on regular downs but shifts beside him for pass rush.

Neither of these guys are monster signings nor are they sexy.
But they are sneaky good upgrades IMO from the area that could boost your roster.
I'd really work to get these done on day 1 of FA.

Did a mock draft that gave me this:
12.
NFL-team-logo

Tetairoa McMillan WR Arizona
Dallas loves getting the best player at a position and a walk in starter in R1.
44.
NFL-team-logo

Tyleik Williams DT Ohio State
Monster in middle of tOSU defense. Can split reps with Mazi.
76.
NFL-team-logo

TreVeyon Henderson RB Ohio State
Not a big tOSU fan lol but this fell this way. Great value at RB in this round IMHO.
150.
NFL-team-logo

Kyle McCord QB Syracuse
Took a swing at a QB who can be a backup on the cheap. Former 5-star kid that got caught in tOSU 5-star shuffle at tOSU.

So post draft I need a LB still pretty bad and I didn't get a CB I would have loved to see fall into great draft value.
Head back to FA here post draft.

I don't see a WR in the 1st under any circumstances. Simply because it doesn't help fix either one of the two biggest problems with this team.
I'd argue WR separation and quality of throws available were a major liability last year.
But more than that you need a guy who can be good but also cheapish now and then take over for CeeDee in 3-4 years when you no longer want to pay him 25M AAV.
Dallas loves to draft the best player at a position, and they have an immediate need for a WR2.
This exact circumstance is how they landed CeeDee in the first place when the Raiders overrated Henry Ruggs.

Depth at DT and RB mean those two spots will have great options into round 3.

What you'd love is a franchise LT here, but this is a really poor draft for OTs.
You might take a guy better than Guyton (not hard to do) but he'd have less ceiling because of athletic profile.

I'm a big fan of DLaw, but he would be a progress-stopper for our team.
Thats true if the young DEs are actually ready and available. Kneeland was really bad last year and Sam was badly injured so may need limited reps for a good while.
You can keep Golston over DLaw for sure but he's not exactly a high ceiling guy that just needs more reps.

Big thing is that they have to change their fa strategy, not just sign bottom of the barrel type players.
Exactly!!! Their FA strategy hasn't worked in ages. Unless they make a conscientious effort to change, (seriously doubt), then I don't think we're going to get FA players who will make a big difference here.

I want Kenlaw, Bolton, and Hernandez in free agency. Draft me Golden, Johnson, and best defensive linemen in the 3rd and let’s go to war.

We have so many holes they have a lot of work to do just to field a team. If they were to get Micah signed they would even have more money. This thing could turn around in a season with just a reasonable strategic FA season.
How do you know your GM sucks? Multiple holes on your roster and he has no clue on how to plug them.

We have too many holes to be trading away picks. Don't be surprised if we trade back to get more picks.
