Free Agency Strategy!

Would you give up a 2nd for DK. I do think him and CeeDee would be lethal but something is off with Metcalf. Dare I say he should be better.
No, not giving up a premium pick and signing him to a huge extension. If you draft, you control the low contract

We need to fix the trenches first. Trading a 2nd for DK, with no 4th and still needing a RB, would be a disaster for our trenches.

The depth of this year's draft is at RB, DT, Edge. Both the WR/off ball LB's lack depth and high-end talent.

#2 WR-almost forced to use our 1st rd pick at the position if not addressed in fa. Day 2 selections will not make a big enough impact and be much of an upgrade of what we currently have.

-Sign or trade for a veteran #2 starter. Players like Adams, Diggs, Kupp all can come at a discount and be very good compliments to Lamb. This also allows more developmental time for our younger prospects.

MLB-Kendricks is a fa and was only brought in to help with Zimmer's transition. Probably won't return. Marist is still a developing prospect and Overshown isn't expected to return next season. If this team truly wants to get better against the run, this is one of the positions you look to spend your resources.

-Sign a Type A free agent like the local Dallas Product Nick Bolton or Raiders tackling machine Spillane. Both are tremendous run defenders that do enough in coverage to stay on the field.

Corner-not many discuss this as a position of need. Look what happened last year when they were forced to start street fa's at the position. Diggs who has been discussed as a cap casualty to expected to miss time next season recovery from major injury, some even speculated he could be like Overshown and miss the entire season.

-Sign or trade for an experienced starting corner, like they did with Gilmore two seasons ago.

Secondary areas to consider:

NT-unfortunately Mazi Smith has progressed as we all have hoped. Has gotten better, but still remains a below average starter. They could look towards the draft to add another prospect, but they typicially take time to develop at the position. Signing a veteran like 49ers Hargrave would make a ton of sense. Can play either interior spots and take Mazi off the field against the pass.

DE-If DLaw/Golston both depart it opens up a huge hole at starting Left DE. Kneeland is still developing, cannot rely on Sam Williams at this point especially coming back from major injury. Kind of like WR, almost have to use a top pick to address this need. Matt Judon another Dallas local player could be a good short-term solution.
Nice work you did here CNY…We have to hope the Jones boys realize that doing the same things with the same players will get us the same results.

Cowboys now have guaranteed $125 million target for negotiations with 4x Pro Bowler

Garrett is one of two players who can make a case to be as good of a perennial force of nature as Parsons is, along with Pittsburgh's TJ Watt. Watt is also looking to earn an extension this offseason, so Dallas may have to move quickly to beat the next incremental shift to $41 million a year.

And so it stands to reason that he has a reasonable expectation to surpass Garrett's numbers now that they are official, and they could breach the $125 million in total guarantee threshold.

I feel like it's highly likely we go WR in round 1. After CD the cupboard is bare.

Agree that DT, Edge, CB, S and RB are well stocked in the draft....they should be places that we are looking to pick. Weak spots are interior OL, LB, and to a certain extent WR. So those should be the places to target in free agency. We really can only count on Liufau at LB right now. I guess Clark. But we have to improve there. Kyzir White, Dre Greenlaw, or Robert Spillane would make sense. Everyone has mentioned Will Hernandez as an OL possibility, but there are a bunch of vets out there that will be signed in the 4-6m range. WR has a handful of studs and then a lot of guys that are kind of meh. WR isnt great in the draft, so go for McMillan early in the draft or just bring in the best meh guy in FA.

Lol, this front office has no strategy other than maybe piling as many dumpster bin free agents in the clown car as you can.

Can you imagine Tet McMillan and Cee Lamb playing together in this offense, with a good running game to keep the safeties honest. This could be a pick your poison type balanced offense with motion and play action.
That would be my dream. He’s exactly what we need. I don’t know if he will be there but there will be one of top 3-4 there. Get a RB in the second or third and sign a vet. Sign Lewis, a vet DT and DE. They won’t sign stars but there are a handful of DT’s especially who are availible and be an upgrade over mazi. At DE we realky need Sam Williams to be ready to contribute in a solid way, draft a guy and if a vets availible sign him. That’s combo at WR is a perfect fit

Puts themselves in a corner. If they decide to go in that direction, I would trade back and take one of those top receivers
If McMillan is there I take him at 12 and be thrilled. If he’s gone I might consider trading back some but he is a perfect match with Lamb. Most of the others are very similar types as lamb

But fans who take things at face value may not see the myriad of ways to interpret Jones' words. Jones spoke about signing their own players - a story as old as time itself in Cowboys lexicon - but also using their draft picks. Fans scoffed at that as Dallas only has three picks in the Top 100 and no fourth-round pick, sending that to Carolina for WR Jonathan Mingo. The Cowboys need more than three starters to be competitive and getting immediate star play out of all three first-round picks is a ridiculous assumption.

But those quotes that are making the headlines and the rounds are missing a very key piece of what Jones said. The Cowboys have used trades in the past to get immediate veteran help, and the Cowboys opening up salary cap room could be used to do just that once again.

"Right about draft time, picks get very premium right now. The trades relative to draft picks for a player, this is a [possibility]," Jones said (via DallasCowboys.com). "You might call it a good time, because the draft, the round picks to be able to use it this year, can come at a premium."
Two years ago, the Cowboys acquired WR Brandin Cooks for a sixth-round pick and CB Stephon Gilmore for a fifth. Both players were integral starters for a team that won 12 games in 2023. Dallas has four fifth-round picks and two sixth-round picks in 2025. Recent trades have seen star players get moved for similar compensation, and it's expected that the NFL will see several of these types of moves over the next week as free agency's doors open.

Strategy? This front office has no strategy. There is no plan, no vision, no idea how the cap works, no idea how free agency works, no thoughts on what type of team they want to be. They just dangle a few dollars in front of a few guys that no one else wants and then over pay their own and cry about having no money and tell us how they spent more than anyone else when we all know it’s a steaming pile of BS

- With Overshown on career mend, and only Marist at LB, who else do we have at LB ?
Without Hendricks we only have one active legit LB, Damon Clark is JAG. i could see us drafting another off LB within round two and three, not out of question.

Hendricks return would depend upon DC Eberflus and his Tampa 2 scheme,..and cap boy Stephen,..
i reckon he would be cheap considering his age, durability and limitations. He's already age 33 and not fleet footed. Marist will be starting Mike but wheres' the
off ball OLBs ? be great to have some kinda help in FA for a vet off ball LB
