As the title says in FA DEs Dallas might target? If Dallas intends to improve they need a guy that is a 3-down player that will create havoc. I would love to see a Ryan 4 man pressure get home from an odd front...

Calais Campbell is the big name, but there will be a ton of FA DEs:

Adam Carriker
Jason Jones
Phillip Merling
Kendall Langford
Cory Redding
Shaun Ellis
Aaron Smith
Shaun Rogers
Sammie Hill

Even Cullen Jenkins could be available again. And i am sure there will be other cuts unforeseen.

We signed three DEs last year. They're all under contract. Unless Calais Campbell shakes loose, I don't see us doing anything in FA at the position.

The problem is LB.

  • Spencer is solid but not a dynamic rusher.
  • Bradie and Brook are non-entities creating inside pressure.
  • Victor Butler is too small to get more than very obvious passing downs.

I think the more likely solution is a NT that allows Ratliff to move to DE in certain down/distance situations.

I'd add Osi to any list of potential pass rushers in Dallas through FA.

I agree. Moving Rat to DE and adding a NT like Garay, Soliai, Franklin or Gragg may be the smarter decision. But adding another pass rushing DE if Rat is kept at NT works as well. That would give the Cowboys THREE pass rushers on the starting DL instead of just two.

And I don't think Coleman is re-signed, he was on a one year deal. Spears could be let go as well if a better player is signed IMO.

But a proven pass rushing replacement for Spencer is first, I wholeheartedly agree. Mathis, Avril, Abraham and Brooks may be more economical options over Mario Williams.

I would also sign a couple of cheaper otpions in addition (can't have enough OLB in a 3-4): Juqua Parker, Alama-Francis, Quentin Groves, Xavier Adibi

Never know who will be the next Antwan Barnes or Jason Babin.

I believe he is still under contract although I would love to have him here.

Add Carriker to the list, and we're on the same page...

Really, though, I think the DE we're looking for is Ratliff... I'd rather find a massive NT to compete with Brent and go with the incumbents at DE...

I like the idea of Merling. The guy has big upside and seemed to be coming into his own until this season. Think he had an issue with the law though...not sure whatever came from it.

Red Bryant would be a great 3-4 DE on the strong side.
Bryant on one side with Ratliff on the other with Spears and Hatcher rotating in would be a very good DL.

Campbell is going to be franchised.

Red Bryant is more suited for NT. He's 6'3, 333 lbs, a little bit slimmer Casey Hampton type

Idgit, I agree that I think Osi will be A free agent, and I know he and Ware are good friends, how likely do you think it is we sign him? Would it be based on the price tag, or has The FO been interested before?

Osi would be a typical JJ signing of a shiny toy

the giants will draft 2 more DT/DE after utilizing the best years of Osi

we will overpay for a DE at the end of his career looking for a pay day

this would not be a good signing IMO

get a young hungry guy not someone loking for a pay day to end his career and to rest on his prior laurels

It all depends whether his expectations are reasonable, or not. There are actually better players in front of him right now in NY, and it's hard to say if his issues are with the way he's been phased out, or with Jerry Reese in particular. I think there's a price where he makes sense here, and we've got the room for him. I'm not sure there's not another team out there who'd overpay for him at this point in his career, though.

I'm not saying I want him, just that I think he's someone who'd be on the list if he becomes available.

I know he is not a sexy pick up in most people's minds but Marcus Benard is a guy I could see the team getting in part to his ties to Rob Ryan. He thrived in his system and played really well as an end. He averaged around 5 sacks a season while he was there.
