Realistically how many Free Agent Dollars do you see Cowboys Spending outside of their own signings ?
My hope we can be cap friendly on our own Player signings but somehow be able to upgrade the Roster. I still would like to add Earl Thomas to the Secondary, replace Beasely with Adam Humphries and sign a DT like Sheldon Richardson. If these could happen and we draft a TE in the 2nd Round like Irv Smith from Alabama I would be all smiles. I just think dollar wise it can be done with some cuts and restructures.
If they keep their own free agents the roster is better in 2019 than in 2018.
Review of 2018:
Rookies that started games:
Vander Esch
Gallup
Connor Williams
Cooper not on the roster in training camp or first 7 games.
Frederick missed the season.
Other 1st time starters:
Woods at FS
Woods at 1-tech DT
Jarwin/Shultz at TE
Randy Gregory at RDE
Byron Jones 1st full year starting at CB.
Awuzie 1st full year at CB.
Brown 1st full year as the slot CB.
Jaylon's 1st full year starting.
Collins 2nd year at RT.
1st year in the Kris Richard coverage scheme.
2019:
Moore can't be worse than Linehan at OC. No guarantee that he is better but can't be worse. The winning streak that started around mid-season coincides with the time that Moore and Nussmeier were reported to have gotten more involved in the game plans and play designs.
They'll add the 2019 draft picks.
If they don't re-sign their own free agents, then those positions must be addressed. Beasley seems like the only significant free agent to not be re-signed.
What I would do:
Be opportunistic. That's how the Pats tend to operate.
I doubt the Cowboys do much other than re-sign most of their own players.
TEs and run stopping 1-tech type DTs tend to be the least expensive positions in free agency.
I'm not certain there are any good fits at TE.
Cook has decent numbers but something seems off with him because he does not stay long with any team.
Eifert has only started 17 games of the last 80.
DT Danny Shelton might be a bargain because he only played about 30% of the snaps for the Pats.
At 3-tech DT they've been interested in Sheldon Richardson in the past. He played on a 1-year, 8M prove-it type contract last season after a down year in 2017.
Look at Beasley replacements. I expect Tavon Austin to be re-signed for 1-year, 3M. They have Cedrick Wilson returning from IR and he was ahead of Gallup in training camp.
Adam Humphries would be more versatile than Beasley (bigger and legit punt returner); however, he'll likely be more expensive than Beasley.
Examples from 2018
The Vikings signed:
Sheldon Richardson 1-year, 8M
George Iloka 1-year, 880K
The Colts traded a 4th for:
Snacks Harrison 7M for 2019, 9.25M for 2020
