Usually free agency has a mad dash for the best free agents the first few days, then cools off as teams wait for prices to drop. But this year because any agreement will be reached so late and teams will immediately want any new players on hand, almost all the free agents teams want should be gobbled up within a week.

With UDFA signings, draft pick signings and free agency happening all at once, it should be interesting to watch and lots of fun for us football-starved fans.

You have to figure they might split it up; UDFA's for a week then the regular FA's. Something like that.

Would make sense if they at least separated them by a couple of days. Otherwise, teams will have to prepare for how to attack both fronts at once, along with draft picks signings.

Of course, it wouldn't be that hard to split up staff responsibilities.

It depends on the assessed need. I think Jerry will jump all over signing Michael Huff over any UDFA.

I am looking more at a league wide thing then just the Boys

It will give us some football news and real news, when usually this time is the longest most boring time of the year.

That's how I'm looking at it. There is usually a long lull before TC gets started and it's hard on many of us football fans. This year it looks like the dullest part of the offseason gets a furious infusion of FA signings right before everything gets going. Going to be fun around here again.

I figure the Cowboys already have sat down and compiled their list of free agents they want. So if contact hasn't already been made with their agents (because of rules prohibiting it), it's a simple matter of Jerry or Stephen concentrating on that.

Other members of the staff will probably be working the phones on the UDFA signings, with a list prioritized there as well.

I'm sure other teams have had plenty of time to sit down and draw up similar plans that will make a bunch of signings happen so fast it'll be hard to keep up with what's going on. Every teams going to want their new players in-house as soon as possible, especially if this thing gets dragged out for a couple more weeks.

If it ended now, I think there would be a little less urgency, but still be a mass of signings.

I need to prepare my boss for me not getting anything done the first week of free agency. Of course, he's pretty used to that.

you mean you never get anything done.

I'm pretty sure the UDFA we're interested in have been known for quite some time. The draft was a month and a half ago. I have absolutely zero doubt that the staff has spent a lot of time determining which USFAs to offer, along with which FAs to pursue. It's just a matter of contacting them. I would have to imagine all the homework has long been completed.

It'll be really interesting to find out, if word later starts to seep out, just how much covert contact teams have had with UDFA's and FA's already. If say, Deunta Williams already has a pretty good idea where he'll sign, or if some rough numbers are already being tossed around very privately with Michael Huff's agent. (yes, I have safeties on my mind). Not just with the Cowboys, but league wide.

I can guess that there would be some punishment passed out by the league if anything solid leaked out, but I'd be surprised if some private communications haven't been taking place.

Trouble is, your UDFA list has to be fairly long because most of them are going to go where they get the best bonus. I'm sure Dallas has them prioritized, so the Cowboys will most likely get the ones they offer their top bonuses to, but there will be a lot of phone calling to do.

I do agree though that the homework has already been done and it's just a question of contacting them.

It's certainly possible that there are a lot of wink-wink deals with the udfas.

I'm sure it will be much like the tampering rules of negotiating contracts with impending free agents before opening day of free agency in previous years. Teams sign free agents at 12:01 a.m. on March 3rd, everyone knows what's going on, and no one says anything or really pushes for punishment because they were doing it too.
