The top 20 in this list are DEs and OLBs sorted by sacks in 2016.

The remaining DEs are in the 2nd group and the remaining OLBs are in the 3rd group.

Lorenzo Alexander - Age 33, only 9 total sacks in all previous years. 6-1, 245.
Nick Perry - Solid player, good size 6-3, 265.
Erik Walden - Size ?, 6-2, 250
Chandler Jones - Probably franchised.
Mario Addison - Age 29. Pass Rush specialist. Only 4 career starts. 6-3, 260.
Calais Campbell - A 3-4 DE in AZ.
Melvin Ingram - Size ?, 6-2, 247.
Julius Peppers - Old.
Jason Pierre-Paul - NY would do everything possible to prevent him from going to the Cowboys.
Andre Branch - Dissappointing career, but maybe a late bloomer.
Jabaal Sheard - Only 8 starts in 2016. Averaged 5 starts in past 3 years.
Chris Baker - A 3-4 DE, 6-2, 320.
Devin Taylor - SDE type. 6-7, 275.
Robert Mathis - Old.
James Harrison - Old.
Charles Johnson - Probably SDE, 6-2, 275.
Chris Long - Age 31. 6-3, 270.
William Gholston - SDE type. 6-6, 281.
John Simon - A 3-4 OLB, 6-1, 260.
DeMarcus Ware - Old.

Damontre Moore - Flashed some ability in 2rd year, but character issues derailed him in NY.
Datone Jones - Played both OLB and DE in 3-4 defense, but primarily DE. 6-4, 285.
Courtney Upshaw - Only 6 career sacks. 62, 272.
Barkevious Mingo - College pass rusher but played 4-3 OLB with Patriots. 6-4, 240.

Not very encouraging and the only proven one that still has played decently is JPP. Not sure that is a target that we'd go after.

JPP is going to command around 13-15m per year, in my opinion. I don't think he's a realistic target.

I don't think there's an easy and quick fix to the DE situation, unfortunately. Chances are we're not looking at a drastically improved situation at the position next season.

Nick Perry
Mario Addison
Jabaal Sheard
Datone Jones
Devin Taylor

How I'd rank the guys we most likely have a realistic shot at....not very encouraging. Do any of them give us a bigger impact than Benny Mayowa did?

Calais Campbell

According to their grading metric, Campbell was one of best DLMen in the league last year.

I don't think we had DL to score over a 8 or 9.

Perry, Addison or Sheard.

The other guys are either too small, too old or better off on the strong-side of the defense.

The one older guy I'd consider is Ware based on a 300 snap season.

Yes on Nick Perry.

If Addison is a pass rush specialist, then Mayowa would have to be the starter. He's not the ideal guy to be a run down type player.

I guess they could keep DLaw as the starter at RDE with Addison as the pass rush specialist DLaw could move to LDE on some snaps when Addison is in the game. That would leave Mayowa without a spot.

I'm not sure that Sheard is much of an upgrade.

Datone Jones and Devin Taylor would be another LDEs, but they need a RDE.

Melvin Ingram might be possible but his size is borderline.

AZ cap space as of today. That includes 15M for QB Palmer who is expected to retire.

2017 $33M
2018 $82M

Carson Palmer has confirmed he will return for a 15th NFL season in 2017.
This was expected all along, but Palmer took his time, just to be sure. Palmer's play fell off dramatically in 2016 following his stellar 2015, though he did stabilize down the stretch. His return is unquestionably good news for the Cardinals, but won't preclude them from seeking their quarterback of the future in the draft. There's a good chance 2017 will be Palmer's 15th and final season. Feb 9 - 3:10 PM

Palmer has already come out and said he is coming back.

Towards the end of the season it seemed as though Mayowa was playing much better vs. the run. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the starter in '17.

Maybe, maybe not.

But I'm interested in seeing what Mario Addison or DeMarcus Ware could do playing in a rotation with Benson Mayowa at RDE.

You may not get double digits sacks from either one, but together they would get 10+ sacks and plenty of QB pressures.

Rob Marinelli wants to rotate 8 DL during games, but we've never had two worthy RDEs on the roster at the same time.

I agree with that, but I'm not sure it's his strong suit.

If they had a quality staring RDE, I think Mayowa would be a quality backup.

I agree with that take.

I'm the only one who is interested in him?

He's the best guy out there.
