News: After making the Pro Bowl for the first time in his eight-year career and doing another excellent job anchoring the Packers' offensive line, most daily team observers agree that Wells should be rewarded with a well-deserved, long-term contract extension — except for one factor. Packers GM Ted Thompson is known for having an aversion to making long-term commitments to players over the age of 30, and Wells turned 31 on Jan. 7. Wells also wants to be paid like a top center, which he most definitely is, and even though he fits the Green Bay system like a custom-made glove, there's no denying his interest in seeing what this offseason's free-agent market might bear.

I'm all about it. Sign his arse if we can draft DeCastro in the first.

Id rather let him go elsewhere.........draft Blake and have he and Killer compete for the starting C job in 2012.....knowing Blake will eithe win it then or definitely win it in 2013.

He just turned 31 and had his first pro bowl season. Unless he asking for outrageous amount, I'd sign him & either sign an OG or draft an OG. Those 2 additions will significantly improve our OL and give Romo the protection he needs to put up lots of points--unless we can also sig upgrade defense thru FA & draft. Don't want another year of checking out which of our 2 centers are starting caliber. How many more years will we waste Romo's talent?

We are in year 2 of a 3 year plan. Do not sign an FA's over 30. Draft Blake in the 2nd and go from their.

Use FA money to fix the defense. That's the reason we didn't make the playoffs. Not the offense.

Wells wants 7 million a year. NO thanks for 7 million a year for a 31 year old OL.

I know Wells, he is good friends with my wife's uncle, he and his family comes to our family easter every year. Great guy, his kids are alittle wild but Scott and his wife are very nice people. They just built an amazing house in Brentwood TN, they also just adopted 3 kids form Africa.

He is a great super nice guy and a great player. But I don't want Dallas to go into cap hell for a 31 year old Center.

Green Bay offered him a very nice deal that they both agreed on during the season, but now he wants to be a top 5 paid Center, over 7 a year. The Titans need a center but they won't pay that much, I think he would take a home town discount to stay in Nashville. I also see Miami making a move for him.

Blake in the 2nd would be to soon. I would take him in the 3rd but not the 2nd.

I like Wells, I really do, but he's 31. Now for an O-Lineman he might have 3 or 4 great years left in him. It's possible.

But to be completely honest I'd rather continue to get YOUNGER on the O-line.

31 is not old for a C.

Many Cs play well past 31.

4 of the highest graded Cs from last year were 35 or older.

The average age of ALL centers who had a positive grade from last year (18 Cs) is almost 30.5

Most Cs are late 20s, pressing 30.

Phil Costa at the age of 25 was the 3rd youngest C in the league last year who played 50% of the snaps, getting nudged from #2 by 4 months.

Hell, people are advocating for Blake and he's 2 years older than Costa.

So you sign him to a rookie contract and let him walk afterward because he's gonna 31?

I don't want Wells anyway. I want Myers. Wells isn't going to get 7M because he isn't the best C available and Cs don't typically get that kind of money.

There's only 1 C who clears 3.5M in base salary. There are 9 Gs who do that.

31 or even 32 is not too old for a C. It's almost like saying that Dallas shouldn't sign a CB if he's over 27.

Give me Myers. His lowest ranked grade in the last 4 years is like 12th. He's also finished 8th, 3rd and 1st. Not to mention he hasn't missed a game in 5 years. Maybe never. He's active for every game except 7 games in his rookie season and I don't know if that was injury or not.
