Free agent signings

This is our window.
People think Dak will be good for 12 years, and that may be true.
Injuries happen, and we could be sorry for being complacent.

We have the cap flexibility with the escalating cap.
The team is ready, so lets not waste the window.

Not happening it's abt building through the draft. Stephen is running the show and he knows free agency is very expensive along with it being a crapshoot

I'm really intrigued by the idea of adding Sheldon Richardson. His price has dropped due to the late season issues and should be much more reasonable to acquire.

As for the FAs, signing these guys sounds nice, but they have to be available. I've long wanted E. Berry on this team, and if he somehow made it to FA (unlikely) I would go after him hard and make sure he wore the star.

1st year DL generally are not game changers.
This would waste another year of a window.
Lets hope Jerry wants to win a superbowl soon.

You can only aggressively and simultaneously go after all the targets and sign whoever is willing to sign.

Without pass rush, expect more of the same.
With a strong secondary, your pass rush is better off.... and with a young dline just learning to take the field, they learn to own it.

The higher the risk, the larger the potential reward... also the higher degree of uncertainty.

I take this risk every single time bc a pass rush without a secondary can't win super bowls... a secondary without a pass rush can.

Your DL may become good in year 2.
History shows rookie DL are not that great.
And we are not drafting high.
Having said that, we should by all means draft 5 or 6 DL if we can take care of RT and WR in FA.
Instead of just DL in draft, do BOTH FA and draft.
We have the money flexibility.

WR is a draft priority, unless a deal falls in our lap in FA... which it may... maybe talented WRs nowadays...

DL is something you want to build in house... possibility we re-sign Ware.. I think that plugs the hole.

What leverage do the cowboys have on Crawford for him to do that? I'm asking honestly.
Jerry: "Tyrone, you suck and we made a mistake. If you want to stay with the team we need you to take a paycut. Keep in mind you won't be signed by another team because other teams like their defensive players to play defense in the playoffs"

I'm kidding, well not about him sucking and not being worth the money we gave him but we don't have any leverage. Terrible signing on our part. Sucks

Well we want a lot of things but it does not get where we need to be.
That is not optimal for winning next year.
Ware's back is bad and he may retire.
You seem to think we do have enough salary cap flexibility, which is not the case.
We wait for the draft and Prescott's 4 year low salary period will be over.

Any talk of potential free agent signings needs taken with a grain of salt. More than likely all the big names will resign with their original teams. Guys like Eric Berry for example simply aren't going anywhere.
Agree. Guys like Eric Berry, JPP are going to cost premium dollars and history has shown that it usually does not work out.

Ware is still having back issues. I read somewhere that his latest back issues may cause his to consider retirement.....

I agree, defensive players dont make immediate impact like Offensive players,we are not going to get immediately better drafting late in the RDs,we need to make some FA splashes or we will have similar to worse Defense next year.

Berry is the only big money guy worth it this year. JPP is NOT worth big money.
I haven't bought a Jersey in about 5 years (Lee). If the Cowboys somehow ended up with Berry this winter, I would have one ordered the first day it was available. What's more, is he would fit this locker room to a T.

Some of my FA musings...

1) I don't believe in paying for FAs unless they are bargain role players (Durant) or potential game wrecker. Also you get the best bang for your buck on DL/OL compared to other positions.

2) I think Dallas have solid players across the defense, however, they're missing 1 game wrecker. While it's possible to see someone step up next year (Irving, Jones, Smith, Tapper) you can't rely solely on that.

3) The batch of premium players I'd target would be JPP, Chandler Jones, Melvin Ingram, Nick Perry. Teams don't let elite pass rushers go so it's slim these guys hit the market with the exception of Nick Perry. GB front office is notorious of not spending on FAs, even if it's thier own guys. I can see him being available. If so his size, burst and age would be an ideal edge setter and game wrecker for the DL. He would attract double teams which should help the "orphans."

4) T.Crawford needs to be cut. Not that I think he's bad, there's just not enough production to justif his cap hit. Any savings of this cut should help freeing up room for a premier signing.

5) I wouldn't spend significant money on other positions other than bringing in depth. RT is a question though. Free probably needs to go, however, Chaz Green and Emit Cleary can't be relied upon. A replacement for Leary can be found through draft. As with a replacement for Butler and Lucky. Maybe draft one of those pure speed Wrs later on and try to develope.

6) This draft is strong for CB so I can see draft being an option for Mo's replacement. Finally, If Carr doesn't retire I'm good with bringing him back on a bargain deal.

History doesn't show that at all. Two of the first team rookie dline man were not first rounders. If you want a guy in round 4 obviously the chances are lower but mcclay gets paid to find contributors in rounds 1 and 2
