This was an exercise we did last year, that resulted in a bunch of funny responses after looking back. So let's try it again.

Which free agents would you want to resign after this season, and how much are you willing to spend to keep them?

Dlaw
Tavon
Beasley
David Irving
Fleming
Jamize Olawale
Deonte Thompson
Kony Ealy
LP!!!
Marcus Martin
Datone Jones
Chaz Green
Damien Wilson
Rod Smith
Justin March-Lilliard
Swaim

Don't bother posting if you're gonna say "just wait until after the season". It's a waste of space.

So let's hear it

Might be an effort in futility but here goes.

Dlaw - will sign in long term either before July 16th or after the season
Tavon - wildcard but assuming the best resign at a reasonable deal
Beasley - resigns a 3 year deal
David Irving - color him gone
Fleming - resigns on a 2 year deal
Jamize Olawale - resigns a 1 year deal
Deonte Thompson - bye bye
Kony Ealy - resigns during the season on a 4 year extension
LP!!! - resigns on a 2 year deal best long snapper in the business
Marcus Martin - not sure he even is on the roster at the start of this season
Datone Jones - up in the air, but suspect he moves on
Chaz Green - really is this a question?
Damien Wilson - moves on to greener pastures maybe even traded by the end of this year's training camp
Rod Smith - big question mark, maybe a 1 year deal
Justin March-Lilliard - nice knowing you, good luck with your next team
Swaim - actually could see him in a trade with a couple of others and a pick that brings Earl Thomas here

Dlaw: Truly depends on his 18-19 season.
Tavon: Like D-Law. Could pan out as a RB/WR hybrid or remain a disappointment.
Beasley: Walk
David Irving: Tough. See how he does and maybe franchise
Fleming: Re-sign as long as reasonable.
Jamize Olawale: walk
Deonte Thompson: Walk
Kony Ealy: More than likely let walk
LP!!!: Re-sign 8 years 80 mil
Marcus Martin: Walk
Datone Jones: 1-2 year re-sign depending on performance.
Chaz Green: Walk
Damien Wilson: Walk
Rod Smith: 1-2 year deal
Justin March-Lilliard: Walk
Swaim: Depends, but likely walk.

DLaw for sure. Tavon A. Fleming. LP because you always have to sign LP. Don't kill me on this but maybe Jones if he has a good season because they are thin at DT. My big omissions are Beasley and Irving. Beasley really bothered me when watching All or Nothing. He acts like he has won 10 SBs. That guy is lucky to be playing. I am done with him. Irving is supremely talented but 100% unreliable. Imagine that guy with a big contract? I think it would be a disaster. Can't invest in those types with this salary cap.

I really want Datone Jones on this team for a few years. He flashed in his limited snaps last season, despite being put in the 1T role. It's hard to flash as a 1T.

Actually with this list we really do have to wait. No one stands out to say we MUST keep this guy.

DLaw if he has a repeat season of last year.
LP is the only one we can say for sure to keep. I will also say Rod Smith may be considered.

But really, we need to see how they do this year. It is not like Zeke or any of the OL that are going top be FA's.

Tavon is the one that interests me the most. I don't expect him to have big numbers but a few TDs here and there, running, catching and returning. If he accepts his limited role he re-signs for a team-friendly two-year deal.

I also really like Rod Smith. But he becomes expendable if Scarborough shows enough his rookie season.

DLaw I want back. I think Irving will have a strong 12 games after suspension and make people want him back.

Maybe Tavon makes enough splash plays to make him a priority. I don't trust our offense to maximize him though.

If Tyron's back flares up and Fleming needs to play and plays well he becomes a priority. Might price himself out of Dallas if that happens.

Everyone else I will let test the market. If they come back they are as cheap roster fillers and depth, not priority.

Continue the slow build. Get your studs from the draft and sign value second wave FAs.

I'm OK with all of them returning to training camp in 2019.

I start with 3 less obvious choices:

Marcus Martin: I think he has starter ability and could be an upgrade over Looney as the gameday interior backup because he also plays Center. I reviewed a couple of games he played last season and he looked decent. I would grade him about the same as I graded Cooper the previous year and both had played some games for Cleveland.

Datone Jones: I think he'll end up being an important role player at DT; although he'll likely be looking for a decent contact if he has a solid year.

Tavon Austin: I think in this offense he'll be a quality part-time player. He might end up taking some of Beasley's snaps. Defenses will play differently with Austin in the slot as compared to Beasley. Austin might not rack up big stats but he can help open things up for other receivers. Defenses often played off on Beasley on 3rd and medium/long with the plan to tackle him short of the 1st if he was the target. If they give Austin open space he has the RAC ability to get the 1st and more.

LP: No comments needed.

DLaw: Hard to depart with a legit pass rusher but 2 past back surguries are very concerning considering the size of the required contract. I would be OK Franchising him again like they did years ago with Spencer.

Fleming: They don't have any high upside young players in development at OT.

Irving: It would be good to hsve him om the roster but he is not dependable enough for the size of contract he'll likely receive. If he is dominant and stays out of trouble, then the Franchise Tag could be considered; however, he would have to be really dominant as a pass rusher and very good as a run defender.

Beasley: Good to have on the roster but might cost too much for his role here. I think Austin might get some of his snaps this season. If they play more 4WR sets now with Witten gone then that helps Beasley's value.

Kony Ealy might turn into a solid contributor this season but hopefully by next season a young DE or multiple have stepped up and played well. Hopefully at least 1 of Armstrong, Gregory or Tapper become solid players this season and I expect Taco to start.

Chaz Green: I think he is better than most fans believe but I don't think he'll ever stay healthy.

The others are low level players that would be OK to bring to camp next season.

I'll give it a stab

Yes:
If Dlaw is in the top 10 in QB pressures this season I would sign him to a deal around $16.5M AAV for 3-4 years.
I'd like to resign Datone Jones, which wouldn't be expensive in all likelihood.
I'm in the minority and would like to resign Irving. For a group that complains abiut the lack of elite defensive talent, I'm surprised so many want to run him off after this year. I'd give him the contract we gave Crawford. If he slips up again and gets suspended he loses his guaranteed money and we can cut him.
Rod Smith will be interesting. I think he'll have amother solid year and we'll all think he's outpriced himself for us to resign(Morris this offseason). But the market for RBs is so slim, especially non starters that I can see us being able to resign him for around the $1.5M mark.
I have a feeling one of Wilson or JML is going to surprise people from the depth LB position. My money is on JML.

Maybe:
If Gregory isnt reinstated and Tapper is cut then I would look into brining Ealy back if he has a Mayowa like or better season.
We have a lot invested in the Oline. Tyron would have to show that he'll never be the same or La'el disappoint.
There are almost no NFL ready college FB prospects. If we get good use out of Olawale I would like to resign.
Tavon Austin
