3? 4?

Yet another fumble caused by the human turnstile

I thought Dak could have climbed the pocket on this one or gotten rid of it quicker, but this one also was on Free.

Yet another fumble caused by Free's guy

Just because it was Free's man who eventually caused the fumble does not mean we can blame him when he clearly handles this man, but Dak is forced to leave the pocket because of pressure from elsewhere.

So if this is all of the evidence, Free was responsible for two of Prescott's nine fumbles. Most likely, it was more than that, though, because he also gave up the most pressure.

How many of Dak's fumbles were due to Free?

Also how many of Romo's injuries were due to Free?
Ohh I love free(not Doug) stuff, 25 percent. Free is underrated and when leary leaves, Collins slides back in...I'd be much more comfortable with the old man out of Northern Illinois. He's serviceable as a starter. If there are any better RT on the market, I'm not aware of them.

Dak had 4 lost fumbles (Green Bay, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh and Bengals) and 9 total fumbles.

Free was directly responsible for the fumbles caused by Vikings, Packers and Bengals.
I was able to only find videos of the lost fumbles because they dont make videos of fumbles that were recovered.

Free directly cost 3 of the 4 lost fumbles, and his man also caused the 4th one but blame goes to multiple players there.

I remember Dak had one unforced fumble that was recovered.
Cannot find the recovered fumbles by google.

Of Dak's interceptions, none were apparently due to a DL hanging onto Dak - mostly Dak's mistake. No real blame on any OL there.

Not 25%. More than 75%.
I would probably take Cleary over Free.

Hey its our weekly right tackle thread. Cool

Hope this one doesn't turn hostile like the others ones so far this offseason.

Cleary was cut by five teams before being picked up by Dallas. If you think he can probably replace Free, I'm not sure there's much I can do for you. The weaknesses that led to him being cut would soon get exposed.

Free is far from perfect and is certainly upgradable, but he is a serviceable starter. There's a whole lot more for me to pick apart than worrying about a tackle who helped Dallas have one of the best offenses in the league.

I don't think any of Romo's injuries were due to Free. It was usually a failed blitz pickup if my memory serves me right.
His last injury was definitely Free's man. But that was so fluky and was scramble on the opposite side of the line, so hard to blame him there.

If you cannot upgrade the D because the DEs are franchised, then may be you upgrade the O instead by getting rid of the cause of almost 40% of all your 2016 turnovers in 1 player?

Well Free is responsible for more than 75% of Dak's fumbles and close to 40% of Dak's turnovers.
I would certainly rather try a new person - and I remember Cleary at least looking decent in 1 game.
I have not watched a game and not thought Free was going to cause a problem in 2016.

I'm pretty sure both Romo's collarbone injuries were from A gap blitzes.

Hard to rock the spin move when they're up the gut.

I've stated my preference several times in other threads for keeping Leary, cutting Free and letting Collins and Green compete to play tackle, but it just isn't going to happen.

The Cowboys front office likes Free. The fact that despite his flaws we have arguably the best line in the league gives them no incentive to make a change. However, this is the last year of Free's contract and he will be 34 in 2018, so maybe the team will seek a young replacement then. (Green showed signs of being able to do it but has yet to prove that he can stay healthy.)

All the handwringing over Free is just wasted effort at this point. That's why I prefer to concentrate on areas where the team either has to do something (cornerback, receiver) or where the team definitely needs to do something because it has to be a priority (defensive end).

The primary reason I entered this thread was to dispute Free being responsible for Romo's injuries, because that just isn't true. It also isn't true that he's responsible for a majority of Dak's fumbles. He's a so-so lineman that the Cowboys seem to be satisfied with as a starter.
