What? The Dallas Cowboys (Five-time Super Bowl Champions of the Super Bowl, 11-time NFC East Champions, 21-time Texas Champions, America's Team, etc.) vs. skins.
When? Sunday evening at 8:00 pm ESDT
Where? Texas Stadium in Irving, TX
Directions? Use Yahoo! Maps or Google Earth
Commentators? Yes
Key Matchup? Jason Witten, TE, DAL vs. the Washington OILB
Overview:
The Dallas Cowboys, America's Team, come in riding high after being very successful last week against the Jax Jags, however when time ran out, the Boys were a little short in the point department. Several positives were brought out from this effort including a resurgence of one Terrell Owens (TO).
The Washington Commanders, OT other H, were exposed by Brad Johnson. Yes, the same Brad Johnson that led the Pewter Pirates to the promised land back in 2002. The Vikings are no pushovers so the Commanders and their fans need not let their heads hang in disappointment because of the loss to the Vikings, but look forward to improving by scoring more points, gaining more yards, executing better, and scoring more points.
The Cowboys Offense vs. the skins defense
Drew Bledsoe is a legend. There...I said it. I see so much of Trent Dilfer in the man that it's almost scary. The arm strength, the leadership, the uncanninness, the never-say-die attitude, the toughness, the grit, the moxie, the pride...it's all there in blue and silver. Bill Parcells uses D-Bled's talents to guide the Cowboys offense. Look at the talent surrounding #11. Julius Jones, Lou Polite, TO, the other WR, Jason Witten, and a steadfast yet steady offensive line. I don't see how even the Pirate defense can handle these juggernauts.
The Commanders defense, coached by Greg Williams, is nothing to sneeze at. Perennial pro-bowlers and all-pros are abundant on this squad. There's so many names on this defense that it's tough just to single out one or two. Take a look at the roster and you will see greatness throughout, however the loss of Deion Sanders is definitely a void that needs filling.
Advantage: Cowboys
The Commanders Defense vs. The Cowboys Offense
Bill Parcells is the Tuna. To receive a name like that you have to be steady, elusive, and full of vim and vigor. Parcells has assembled a virtual shmorgusbord of pro bowl players. Read down the list. Bledsoe, Jones, Owens, Witten, Crayton, Adams, Rector, and Polite. It's a who's who of the NFL League. The only team that mirrors that talent is the Bucs of Tampa Bay.
I'd like to see more of a pass rush by the Commanders defense. Blitzing is only necessary if you wish to rush more than 4 players at a time. The purpose of getting a pass rush going is to put pressure on the opposing quarterback. The minute Gibbs and Williams recognize this, the more successfull this defense will be. Shawn Springs is out and most likely will not play.
Advantage: Commanders
Predictions:
Bledsoe - 23-30, 278 yards, 2 TD's, 0 INT, 1 Pick
J. Jones - 17 rush, 172 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT
Witten - 6 rec, 59 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT
Vick - 17-19, 392 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
Brunell - 17-29, 119 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 0 picks
Portes - 19 rush, 68 yards, 2 TD
S. Moss - 9 rec, 187 yards, 1 TD
Score: Cowboys come out on top: 16-27
