Friday may be a fun day as we contemplate a top ten pick (second round I mean)

Jerry talked yesterday about how the top of the second round will be extra sweet this year, It will be a fun day on this board Friday. A day for resetting draft boards and new mock drafts, as we might just wind up with a top 10 second rounder from a trade down.

The full day before the second round will give teams time to work out more trades than usual. And the bidding will be heavy Friday as those nice players at the top of the second round resemble women left in a bar at closing time ... those players will start to look pretty good as the day winds on. Teams may overpay in trade.

He made it sound like we wouldn't mind being in that spot and then trading down even a little more in the second to take advantage of teams that can't help themselves.

Our consolation prize if a nice player doesn't slip to us at 27.

Ya know, I remember him saying this last year as well with our having the first pick in the fourth round, and then we didn't trade or anything... Just took McGee, which was kind of a lackluster pick.

There will be a lot of upset people on Thursday night though. Waiting for their first round pick and then not getting it.

I hated the McGee pick last year. I hope he pans out but I just did not like taking a raw qb that high. We had bigger needs imo.

I also remember last year that the consensus was that we would have too many draft picks versus spots on the team, so we would trade down for more picks for the following year (this year) in a top heavy draft.
So we did the opposite and took more picks and not a single extra one for this year. How did that work out. So, who knows what will happen tomorrow ? It should be very interresting, regardless.

Right you are, Mr. Lab. ... Last year though I believe the second day kicked off with the third round, so we didn't get much time to mull over that first pick in the fourth round/McGee.

Wiki reminds me that it was 2007 that we started the second day/fourth round with like the fifth pick in that round, which we used on Stanback, sorry to say.

We might not get a lot to trade down from 27 to the top of the second round (maybe a third or fourth rounder), but that second round pick may be worth more, maybe a third rounder and change to move down another 5 spots or so. ... It's going to be exciting, baby!

Same here. I'm a McGee fan, actually, but the first overall pick in the fourth? I think we could've traded down a little and still got him.

It will be extra sweet if the teams use their entire 15 minutes on the clock and the 27th pick doesn't go on the clock until after midnight and the Cowboys end up trading out, while everyone is sleep deprived and/or drunk.
