So, Derwin James was doable in a trade up. He fell close enough to make it happen. Maybe we tried but failed. Maybe we didn't try.

What can we read in to that? Possibilities...

1) FO really is comfortable with the three safeties we have on the team as starters. A safety for depth is where we'll look later on. Based on not trading up for James, that's a real possibility

2) They really are negotiating with Seattle for ET and feel good about negotiations with the pick 50 and probably another as compensation to Seattle for ET's services. Also a possibilty

3) FO has every intention of following their draft board, which they appear to have done with LVE, and here it comes, it's a "process" that they're committed to

Guaranteed there will be fans thrilled if option #2 happens on safety pin Friday. Guaranteed there will be fans thrilled if we stay with option 3 and don't bet the farm on a 29 year old ET on safety pin Friday. Guaranteed, few will be thrilled if we stay with option 1 and don't even sniff a safety on safety pin Friday.

Wait for it! Day 2 is a key day in any draft "process".

I'm 100% behind them following their draft board, drafting for need leads to drafting scrubs like Taco.

It certainly appears that we did that last night. Day 2 is really the day that determines quality of draft. Obviously we don't know how well any of the draftees will translate college play to NFL play but yeah, sticking with the board is solid approach

Or maybe fans over value James and ET both
James did fall to 17 even though many fans thought he was GOAT
Thomas is still in Seattle and they don’t want to pay him and no other team has traded for him either

We always over value players. I'll be surprised if the ET thing happens. First, history says the team doesn't value safeties that high. Maybe we don't over value them as a team, just as fans. Whatever happens on safety pin Friday, we can put the ET talk to bed one way or another

Huge ET fan here but 50 pick is way too valuable to offer, think about it, we SHOULD be able to draft a four year immediate starter with the 50 pick who plays those four years on a rookie contract when ET costs us the pick where were only guaranteed his services for one expensive year with the expectation it will cost us 10 million per year to get the additional three after that.
There are other options at FS available and I'd prefer to see our second round pick become one of WR Miller, OG Hernandez, or DT Hurst.

The first sentence had me thinking this was going to be a completely different kind of post. I am glad I was wrong. Good post.

Count me as someone who would prefer to not trade for ET. Much more glaring holes at G and DT. Team raved about Xavier Woods this time last year. Let’s give him a chance to play FS. As nickel he was pretty impressive.

Well we would probably go WR in the 2nd anyway so you can still get ET and your G/DT

Scrub? lol ok dude
exactly the guy needs a chance and isn't a failure until hes cut...the instant PB players is a Unicorn when you are picking late in the first etc..nothing Sexy but if the Draftees come in play a role and deliver a solid play, they are going to be fine..
