Now that the season is over it's appropriate to post these threads so here goes.
1. After this latest season under Wade I have a hunch on why he's had such a terrible run here in Dallas at the end of the season.
If Jerry was looking for a disciplinarian coach when he hired Parcells he should have extricated the undisciplined players when Parcells left.
Many of the players who performed under Parcells may have needed a disciplinarian to continue to perform. Having Wade gave them a breather, but may have allowed them to relax too much and took away the end of the season edge needed by teams to get over the hump.
2. QB position. After watching the guys that the Giants and the Eagles have on their sidelines there seems to be a management error made on Jerry's part with the number and quality of QBs we have on the team.
We don't have enough talent under centre to win a game when Tony is injured. That has come back to haunt us and more importantly as has been said by other posters, Tony is far too comfortable on his perch with no real push behind him.
There is alot this young man needs to work on and it's one thing to expect him to do it with his coaches' urgings, but it's another to see him with a internal spark.
First on his list should be ball control.
3. Season and roster management. This is coming from a pee wee football coach, but I believe it's far better to work through the entire season coaching up your second and third stringers to be able to make a contribution than what Dallas came up with.
You really want to at your worst at the start of the season and your best at the end regardless of record. Having that sort of a culture will bode well when you are in a dogfight for a post season spot.
This means when you have a tough game you have contributors who are prepared to play tough.
I don't think this team can claim that it has second and third stringers who are prepared to contribute significantly and fight the first stringers for a position.
I think it was obvious to many that giving Roy Williams the opposite starting spot to Terrell Owens did not work well. He should have had to fight and hold onto the position.
So much of Dallas problems this year points to the need of another disciplinarian. This points to one of three things IMO.
First, the coaching staff has a system that is too complex or above the ability of the players to perform on a consistent basis. How else can we explain the missed assignments and penalties throughout the season.
Or second the coaches themselves are too lax and not able to properly control this team to perform to the best of their ability consistently and with discipline.
Or last we have a team stocked with individuals who cannot even with generous contracts buy into and sustain a team concept.
It may be a combination of the three, but IMO there should have been no way that the Cowboys under performed so consistently throughout the year.
At some point at Jerry looks for the flaws in the system he has to be able to look at his role in this soap opera. A few years back he was so distraught at the loss he took in Washington that it lead him to a clandestine plane meeting with Parcells.
Hopefully he has learned enough that he can have a few more plane meetings and permanently relegate himself to the owner's box. He's had too many cracks at this can not to admit that he needs some help.
