Williams, Clark and Waletzko...in that order.
Smith, Williams, Ferguson and Bland.
Yea I'm interested in all as well. Does Bland take the next step? Does Ferguson make everyone forget about Shultz? But the most important is Sam Williams. Does he develop into a big time pass rusher off the promise he flashed last year? If he does that is going to be huge for the defense especially for the reasons you pointed out and of course you can't have too many pass rushers.Actually all of them. But if I have to pick only one, as it would be a tough choice. Sam Williams. We need a top pass rusher. Durance Armstrong is a nice compliment type player, and DLaw is not what he used to be, in his one hit wonder year, but he is still very good, but needs that book end pass rusher. Other than Parsons.
Williams needs to make that jump.
I’ve heard good things about him. Word is he’s added about 15 pounds of muscle and the team is very happy with his progress.Waletzko might have something after a full nfl offseason of strength and conditioning. He may need a couple though.
If Waletzko develops, then he could allow the Cowboys to part with Terrance Steele next year, if they cannot work out a long-term deal with him this season. And it is still possible that Josh Ball develops into a good player. Sometimes the light comes on for players in their 3rd season. Ball has more experience at this point than Waletzko, and it is still too early to write Ball off.Waletzko might have something after a full nfl offseason of strength and conditioning. Obviously, they are not all here anymore with the exit of Ridgeway. So, who do you most want to see this year? Who do you think steps up?
Round 1 • Pick 24 (24) • OT Tyler Smith
Round 2 • Pick 24 (56) • EDGE Sam Williams
Round 3 • Pick 24 (88) • WR Jalen Tolbert
Round 4 • Pick 24 (129) • TE Jake Ferguson
Round 5 • Pick 12 (155) • OT Matt Waletzko
Round 5 • Pick 24 (167) • CB DaRon Bland
Round 5 • Pick 33 (176) • LB Damone Clark
Round 5 • Pick 35 (178) • DT John Ridgeway
Round 6 • Pick 14 (193) • LB Devin Harper
For me it's Damone Clark. He could bring some much needed depth to that position. And, if he does show something, getting him in round 5 is a bonus.
Clark started 5 games last season.Three way tie between Clark, Williams and Bland. All 3 could be starting by the end of the year and I would love to see it.
In 2022, Bland started 8 regular season games plus the 2 playoff games.I believe that Clark and Ferguson will be Day 1 starters in 2023. DaRon Bland has a good chance of taking over the starting nickel corner from Jourdan Lewis some time during the season. Along with Tyler Smith, that would give the Cowboys 4 starters out of the 2022 draft - which would rival the 2016 draft which gave the Cowboys 5 eventual starters in Zeke, LB Jaylon Smith, DT Malik Collins, Dak, and CB Anthony Brown.
I expect Sam Williams to carry a heavier load, but not become a starter this coming season. If he progresses, it allows the Cowboys to make decisions about DeMarcus Lawrence in 2024, which could open the LDE position for Sam Williams, and bring their starters from the 2022 draft to 5. Harper and Waletzko are likely going to be depth players and special teamers for their time in Dallas, but the Cowboys also added a key undrafted player with Hendershot, who could start some games when the Cowboys deploy 12 personnel groups to start the game.
He was the best rookie OLineman in 2022 & made the Pro Football Writers of America NFL All-Rookie Team.I want to see Tyler Smith establish himself as one of the league’s best offensive linemen.
