Fry Sauce

IIRC, that's what Wendy's put on their burgers.

And a guy I used to date ate his fries w/the mayo-ketchup combo. Claimed he started when he was in the military over in Germany.

Vinegar is too strong of a taste for me. I won't even try it, but I have a friend who gets a bottle of vinegar, saltine crackers, and squeeze top mustard, and a table spoon.

He squeezes mustard onto a cracker, eats the cracker, then pours vinegar into the spoon and chases the mustard and crackers down with the straight vinegar. uke:

I'm from the Northwest (Idaho) and whenever I ask restaurants for fry sauce, I usually get a really odd look.

Is it really that uncommon?

It's a mixture of mayonnaise and ketchup with some extra spices......preferably none though.

I know they have this stuff in Puerto Rico except they just call it "mayo-ketchup".

From what I have heard, Utah likes to lay claim to the origins but as far as I am concerned, it's an Idaho product.

I hate mayo but when you mix it with ketchup, its amazing.

YES! I mix up a batch every time I go to a restaurant and have fries. It's my signature sauce and everyone who goes out to lunch with me with any regularity knows it!

And yes, I call it "fry sauce" as well. I got the name from a hamburger restaurant we used to have in my hometown as a kid... it was called "Arctic Circle." They used to serve up fry sauce in a little pre-packaged container.

I'm from eastern Oregon originally, which is pretty regionally similar to Idaho, so that makes sense. Since I've been back on the East coast for the last 20 years, I'm the only person I've ever seen order it.

Instead of ordering "fry sauce" you should just order a side of Mayo and mix it yourself. That's what I always do.

A cajun friend of mine, R.J. Savoie, used to mix mayo, ketchup and just a dollop of horseradish together and dip his boiled crawfish in it.

I didn't care for it so much, but I figured, who am I to question a ******* from Breaux Bridge Louisiana, crawfish capitol of the world!?

I dont know about now, but in the late 80s-mid 90s, Burger King used to put ketchup and mayo on their Whoppers down here in San Antonio. Over the last 15 years, I have liked my cheeseburgers with mayo and mustard.

My niece loves mayo on her fries, corn dogs, hot dogs....I love mayo, but not like that. I love bacon sandwiches with Mayo. I love pork tamale sandwiches with mayo (don't knock it till you try it). I love Spam or potted meat sandwiches with mayo. Fried bologna or egg sandwiches with mayo rule.

When I was a kid, I used to mix ketchup, mayo, and mustard together and put on sandwiches or use as a dipping sauce. Sometimes I would add Kraft Original BBQ sauce to the mix.

As far as fries go.....I usually just eat them without sauce....though sometimes I do like gravy, honey mustard, spicy mustard, BBQ sauce, or chili to dip them in. I almost never dip my fries in ketchup...and I definitely do not use the FRY SAUCE that the OP speaks of.

Mayo and Ketchup is nothing like Thousand Islands.....not even close other than maybe the color. Thousand Islands has chunks of stuff in it, pickles, onions, and other spices I believe. Ketchonnaise is just a creamy orange sauce.
