Using CBSSportsline board

27: R1P27
RB MELVIN GORDON
WISCONSIN - Will create all kinds of problems for defenses who have to worry about Romo, Dez, Williams, Beasley, and Witten in addition to the new Dallas RB. Elite acceleration

60: R2P28
CB BYRON JONES
CONNECTICUT - Really good player who likely won't be available late in the second. Great length, speed, jumps, and character.

91: R3P27
DT GABE WRIGHT
AUBURN - Rotational 3T who can give Crawford some rest but has starter upside. He has a little something to his game and could turn out to be very good. I trust Marinelli to get the best out of him.

127: R4P28
OLB MARKUS GOLDEN
MISSOURI - Not elite in any way but solid all the way around, including character and work ethic. Marinelli will love the guy. Could evolve in to nickle rusher and possible OTTO. Great motor and football IQ.

163: R5P27
C SHAQUILLE MASON
GEORGIA TECH - Raw in pass blocking but a very good run blocker who has terrific mobility. Project who eventually could compete with Leary. Can really move and loves to play the game.

236: R7P19
DE FRANK CLARK
MICHIGAN - Off the field issues but has a big, strong frame that would be ideal for Marinelli's SDE spot. Great bull rush and plays with a nasty attitude. Surely worth a look in the 7th round. Would have been as high as a second round pick without off field issues. This is the lone character risk in this draft but his talent is undeniable and I gave in to the his siren's call. Will Dallas?

243: R7P26
DT DARIUS PHILON
ARKANSAS - Developmental DT who has some of the traits Dallas wants in a DT.

I know Byron Jones probably won't be there, so if you can't get past that, then just imagine it is Eric Rowe CB Utah there.

Love your first three picks but my knowledge of later picks is very limited
so I cant comment. If our draft is the first three I'm happy the rest I trust

Piggybacking on your thread since I did the same....

FANSPEAK simulation using cbsports' draftboard (which I've never seen as an option before).

I got lucky in the 1st and 2nd with both guys slipping. I reached significantly in the 5th but there was no one I liked at all there...

27: R1P27 DE ALVIN DUPREE KENTUCKY
60: R2P28 RB JAY AJAYI BOISE STATE
91: R3P27 CB RONALD DARBY FLORIDA STATE
127: R4P28 TE JESSE JAMES PENN STATE
163: R5P27 S CHRIS HACKETT TCU
236: R7P19 OT LAURENCE GIBSON VIRGINIA TECH
243: R7P26 ILB JEFF LUC CINCINNATI

Wow... those first three are nice. Marinelli would work wonders with Dupree IMO.

Yeah, the CBS rankings make it somewhat feasible.

I think Wright could maybe be there in the 4th. Take Shaw, Mauldin, Z. Smith or Chickillo in the 3rd and Wright in the 4th and I'm ecstatic.

Also using the CBS sports board (no way in heck this actually happens):

1. Todd Gurley RB Georgia
2. Carl Davis DT Iowa
3. Mario Edwards Jr. DE FSU
4. Eric Rowe CB Utah
5. Taiwan Jones ILB Michigan St.
7. Kyle Loomis P Portland St.
7. Detrick Bonner S Virginia Tech

Rowe is the only one I see little chance of actually being available in the spot projected. I could see every othe oick potentially being available there.

Here was mine using cbs sports. There were much higher rated players available in some rds, but i tried to only pick players I thought could actually be available. For instance, Kevin Johnson in rd 2.

Rd 1:27 Todd Gurley RB
Rd 2:28 Steven Nelson CB
Rd 3:27 Za'darius Smith DE
Rd 4:28 Gabe Wright DT
Rd 5:27 Jamison Crowder WR

Personally I would be happy with a draft like this. Addressed almost all holes including PR/KR. Would have to look for a tackle after cuts or training camp cuts though

If you could replace Wright with Jarret, DT from Clemson it would be an awesome draft. Wishful thinking because he probably won't be there when we pick in the 3rd. Any way nice job.

Love those first two picks, was telling a bud of mine that I wish C:hammer::hammer:owboys would go with Gordon in the 1st and CB Jones in the 2nd. I feel CB and RB are the most important things in the draft and those are the 2 guys I would like Cowboys to get, you hit the nail on the head !!!!

I would love to have Z Smith in the third. The guy goes 100 MPH on each play, loves the game, and is always one of the most popular players in the locker room. He would be a fantastic pick and I have done many mocks (without posting them here) with Smith as Dallas' third round pick.

If we could get Gordon and Jones at 1 and 2, and then like you said take Smith and Wright at 3 and 4, it would be pretty close to ideal for me.

Problem is, Jones might even go in the first round now. Like I said in the OP, you can replace Jones with Eric Rowe to make it more realistic.

1. Melvin Gordon
2. Eric Rowe
3. Z Smith
4. Gabe Wright.

That would be really good. Throw in Frank Clark later and the defense would have a massive influx of young talent. (yes, I really want Dallas to take Frank Clark.) If he didn't have off the field issues, I would probably be looking at him in the second for Dallas. Exactly what I think Dallas needs at SDE.

Yeah I would love those two as well. The odds of it happening are pretty slim though... particularly with Jones. I don't think he'd get past NE at the last pick of round 1.

Thats the stuff in 3 years that A+ drafts are made of. Nearly every need filled and while sticking to the board. That draft would have me running circles around my living room.

Also Frank Clark in the 7th is more than worth the risk. I'd rather spend a 7th on a 2nd rd talent with 7th rd character than a 7th on a guy with 2nd rd character but 7th rd talent everyday.

Word.

Compare what Frank Clark would be compared to what Caleb McSurdy was in the 7th a few years back. The late rounds are where you give talented but troubled guys a shot.

The problem though is that Clark is so talented that I think someone takes a shot on him sooner than the 7th. So then, that raises the question, how early would Dallas be willing to go (assuming they didn't take him off their board completely)?

Speaking for myself, I might take him in the 5th round. Probably not any sooner than that. However, there is plenty about his legal issues that we as fans don't know and after interviewing him the team might feel better (or worse) about him that you and I do.

Still, I hope he ends up in Dallas.

I just got Dane Brugler's draft guide and love a lot of the names here like Byron Jones and Eric Rowe at CB and Gurley at RB. I think Gurley will probably be gone by 27 though, I'm thinking Ajayi is our guy in the second round but he may already be gone by then. Brugler has Eric Rowe drafted in the 1st or 2nd round, I'm sure people will throw up on my mock but I think he could end up being our first pick.

This is what I'm going with for now, I didn't intend it that way but we draft 3 players from Utah in 7 picks. So for now, I'm going with the "Ute Gonna Love this Draft" Mock:

1st CB Byron Jones, Connecticut or Eric Rowe, Utah

2nd RB Jay Ajayi, Boise State

3rd DE Nate Orchard, Utah

4th OG Jeremiah Poutasi, Utah

5th FS Gerod Holliman, Louisville

7th RB Trey Williams, Texas A&M

7th LB Bryce Hager, Baylor
