FS vs. CB

Since we are returning to the Seattle-based Cover 1/Cover 3 Scheme, am I the only person that absolutely believes the most important position in this coverage scheme is the FS? When you look back at the L.O.B in their prime, name the other ELITE CB(s) that played opposite of Sherman? Browner? Ehhh... Maxwell? Nope...the only ELITE players were Sherman, Chancellor, and the 3-Time, 1st Team All-Pro FS. I am really of the mindset that, as much as I like Horn & Surtain, I’d much rather hope that one of the QB’s drops to 10 and a Dallas can hold some teams hostage for AT LEAST their pick and an additional 2...I think the sweet spot in this draft is Rounds 2-3. Not a ton of elite talent, but a whole lotta really good talent that seems to have universal consensus grades of 1-2’s, 2’s, and 2-3’s. And, I’m done....

Well, Quinn went to Oregon’s Pro Day presumably to watch Holland, and if you believe Fish’s report, the Cowboys apparently “covet” TCU’s Moehrig, so it seems the Cowboys are looking to address the position.
 
I agree a really good single high FS is a must. I’m hoping for Grant in the 2nd.
 
I remember when Paulson Adebo, before he opted out, was rated IIRC at least a 2nd Rounder CB by many of the pundits. Dude is another 6’1”, 200lb., long-armed ballhawk (8 picks, 34 PD in 2 YEARS!!!!!). Just another guy that would look good next to Diggs...if they get one of the Top 3 of the FS.

I really like the idea of the Cowboys trading back to get more picks. I don't think they need to draft elite talent. I would like to see a solid core of coachable, smart, prepared and disciplined players formed to play as a cohesive unit on defense.

Yes, in the cover 3 scheme the single high FS is the most important position. This player must be rangy and instinctive to cover the entire field. The corners will be asked to disrupt (press) at the line of scrimmage, then bail to their deep zones. It's a defense that has everything in front of them, to prevent plays over the top.
 
Draft Surtain at 10, use the 2nd and a future pick to move back in to the 1st for Moehrig.

I would even attempt to move back into the mid to late 2nd to land a DT like McNeil or Shelvin. The defense would be better overnight.

Nonsense. Quinn could be gone in a year or two. Take the stud corner. With diggs and surtain you can afford to play some man on outside and send an extra rusher.

They are going to draft a high level corner, but his scheme puts more importance on the Safety position.
 
If we’re truly going to be a zone heavy scheme I’d prioritize FS over CB in this class.

Good options in dudes like Moehrig, Holland and Grant early...massive falloff after.

I think the drop off to the 2nd tier of CBs is much, much smaller. I’d be fine waiting til the 3rd to take a CB.

So his scheme requires average corners? I find that hard to believe. THIS is the problem with the Cowboys they go from one coordinator to the next, each wanting something different for their schemes and a different type of player. What we wind up getting is a mismatch collection of players.

Marinelli doenst like safeties or DT's, Nolan doesnt like corners. LOL Its all a bunch of BS. Take the stud corner, now we have two. If a DC cant handle that then he needs to go.
 
So much talk about the secondary...so little talk about what’s actually wrong with our defense

Never said the scheme requires average corners. Just saying Safety is a very important position for a cover 3 defense.
