If you compare the way they played the game when I first started watching the NFL back in the 1950's to what we have now it is an apples and oranges thing. I am talking about rules and not players or coaching. So much has changed rule wise. Just a couple of examples: D linemen used to be able to hand slap the side of the helmet of O linemen really HARD; D backs could rough up a receiver any way they liked as long as the ball was not in the air. There are a lot of other rule changes..many more.

The claimed that they reviewed 80 roughing the passer penalties and found only three that were deemed questionable. That is top level BS right there.
Well, if you pick the right 80, it can be done. There's probably three a week that are questionable (to underestimate), but it's not hard to avoid looking at those if you don't want to see any questionable calls.

No professional sport treats its rule book like a lab experiment more than the NFL. Only the NFL can make the act of catching the football more complex than the explanation for splitting the atom.
It could be worse. No, really. MLB's "competition committee" is majority-led by Manfred's people. At least NFL has the good sense to make theirs a legitimate body of owners, GMs and coaches. Manfredball is not watchable for a person like me who needs to see some significant degree of coaching/managerial strategy for the game to be interesting... I'll leave it there, coz this is a football board and you really don't wanna get me started.
