he had the money in form of a loan, but his dad talked him out of it.
he looked at what the team was making back then , and what the loan payments would be, and the team wasnt making enough to pay the loan payments.
6 months after he bailed the afl got new and better tv contracts, which would have made it possible to make the payments, but then the owner decided to keep the team.
many teams struggled financially back then, you had to win and fill stadiums to make enough money, that is why they had the blackouts of home tv games
if not sold out back then.

The question is why did jerry wait so long to try to buy another team?
He also borrowed money to buy the cowboys, he didnt use his own money.
