Fun nugget on Tyler Booker leadership from SI

Would be great to watch him make Jalen Carter’s and Jordan Davis’ “love for football leave their eyes” lol…
So I'm Roll Tide as a college fan.
And I guess I get this hope angle of him being some immediate Zack replacement.

But he ain't coming close to causing those 2 to tap out. Trust me.
Be careful when a guy's leadership and mouth are out in front before their action on the field, ahem, QB position.

Let's see if the say matches with the do before anointing him Larry Allen.
Hell, I'd like to just see him legitimately beat out Hoffman in a fair camp competition to begin with.

Stay tuned.

Call me crazy, I know we drown these kids in anointing oil before they're even picked, but maybe he should kick some butt in the NFL for a second or two before he starts leading a bunch of grown professionals.
Yep, very true.
His quarterback is kinda like that. A lot of mouth but lacking on the action part.

This is exactly where I really struggle with this pick. Huge fan of the player, but drafting a guard early because you need leadership on your OL is a huge red flag to me. How bad of shape is our locker room in where we need a guy who is yet to play a snap in the NFL to save it?

You can add Guyton in there too. I know many are uncertain about him. But we knew he needed a year when he was drafted. We'll see a different player in September.
I just don't see Guyton as a tackle. I thought he was a bad pick last year and nothing from his play changed that.

Hopefully he improves considerably this season, but I think his best chance to make it in the NFL would be as a guard, not tackle.

I think the Cowboys should move Smith out to tackle and then focus on finding the best player at guard to replace him.

Booker is all talk. He needs to shut up for now and do the work as a pro. If he doesn't, he will be perceived as a loudmouth with no skins on the wall as a rookie. He can be a great leader but first he has to be a great follower. I don't think he can do that. Fans meet your next great bust.
Yep,
I didn't scroll up first to see your post before making mine.
I am leaning towards this too because of Booker's similarities to Dak and his leadership and Dak's mouth.

And I'm a Bama fan.
Shut up and play Booker.

this was his statement in college BEFORE THE DRAFT
so you really are out to lunch

he certainly was a leader at Bama and in the locker room before the game

BUT SOMEHOW you think he said this later

Really ignorant

You are spot on imo.
I've made the comparison that he is strikingly similar to the NY Giants failed RT project Evan Neal, a 7th overall choice from a few years back.
It's like both guys have some fundamental balance issues. Maybe because they're both 6'7" I don't know.
But when you watch them it's as though watching a newborn animal who is not used to his legs being under him yet.
They appear off balance often and are on the ground constantly.

Maybe both are better suited for guard with less athletic footwork requirements of the position.

OR maybe they both just suck.

I'm hoping that's all vastly overstated just to sell him to the fanbase.

I mean, I love high character players, but yes, you don't draft a guy at 12 because he's a leader. He better be a great player.

And he may well be, but just because he was a leader in college doesn't mean he's going to be one on the first day (or year) in the NFL.

Right, but is it really about that, or more about a PR response to the crap they are taking for the “culture?”

Maybe it’s about Jerry still being Jerry (the actual issue), or they claim to now be bringing in ‘high character’ types so the fans and media will shut up over the “culture,” which isn’t about much more than Jerry meddling?

I think it's legit... If I were a coach, I'd want that, too.

And I think we especially need that here at Jerry's Circus. They really better love football and be self-starters here where the players are so catered to.

I wrote this in another thread... 80% of leadership is who you are, 10% is what you say, and 10% is who's listening.

When you're a first team All-American, you've got instant credibility and respect, and college players will listen to you. When you're the rookie right guard, NFL players just won't.

If Booker becomes a Pro Bowler, then he can talk big. Until then, it's time to fetch Tyler Smith's Gatorade bottle.

Who's anointing him, especially over a personality trait (alpha). So you don't like the potential of our three young interior pups?

Up front I definitely want a little more accomplished action before talking **** if that's what you're asking.
But finally I'll reserve judgment until I see if coach Riley has determined if Tyler Smith is the best LT on the team.
So I guess I'll await TC's end before giving my final answer.
