I did this last year because it helps me figure out who I want other teams to pick (so our guy slides to us). Basically, I went through like 20 mock drafts and counted every time a guy went in the top 17 picks. From that, I concluded the following players will or won't be there...

Definetly gone by 18 -- 11 players
Bush
Young
Leinart
Ferguson
M. Williams
Hawk
Cutler
Huff
V. Davis
Ngata
Bunkley

Almost Definetly gone -- 4 players
Justice
C. Jackson
Sims
J. Williams

That leaves 2 players out of the following lists that we need to be taken ahead of us to guarantee whichever guy you want...

Decent chance of being selected in the top 17
Lawson
Greenway
D. Ryans
D. Williams
S. Holmes
Cromartie
T. Hill
C. Wimbley

Definetly will be available
Whitner
Hali
J. Joseph
Carpenter
G. Watson

Basically, we can almost take our pick out of the last 2 lists, minus two players. I'm rooting for Greenway to be selected, cause I really don't want him.
Also Holmes b/c then no one can wine about not taking a WR.

I wouldn't mind D. Williams being selected, although if he was still there we might have more possibilities for a trade down (which I think this list proves would be a very smart value move)

That would leave us with our choice of LBs -- Wimbley, Lawson, Carpenter
Or some pretty good DBs -- Cromartie, T. Hill, Whitner, Joseph

Just trust the scouting and take your pick of the litter.

That would be ideal...:starspin

thanks, i thought it was helpful. of course, i know it's not guaranteed or completely accurate -- we can still hold out a little hope for Justice, for instance.

Even if he were to fall to us we wouldn't draft him.

Like it or not, I think it's pretty clear we're set at the OT position for the year.

If justice is there for us at 18 which though unlikely is possible our OT will be...

Flozel
Fabini
Pettiti
Justice

not in that order though, more like

1. Flozel
2a. Fabini
2b. Justice
4. Pettiti

I think we're looking to draft a starter in the first round.

Who's to say that Justice won't win the RT job. That is his natural side and he is very talented.

He might just win it. Heck, I KNOW that one of the FSs in the draft would win the starting job. Doesn't mean we're going to draft them.

i know who wouldn't start, thats mr. Manny Lawson.

Burnett, Singleton have the edge for a good long while, esp as long as he weights as much as a sack of potatos

He would start by week 3 at the latest. And what on earth are you talking about weight? Check out al and kevins weight.

I think your right, but do u think parcells would sit his boy singleton?

i think Wimbley would be a better fit across from ware, he is alot bigger and stronger but i'll agree that Lawson really brings the pass rush threat.

I don't think Singleton is really "his boy". I think he's an average starter, but we would see Lawson/Carpenter/whoever starting by week 3, if not earlier.

yea most likely, either Lawson, Wimbley, Carpenter, or someone else taken in the first three rounds would start but we'll see Singleton is not a bad player, and Im really fond of Burnett both could just make for great depth though.

It would have been great if Burnett and Al stayed healthy all last season. I don't think we would even be considering OLB in the first round this season. Then we could seriously go for BPA.

Porcelain tackles? Would that be Flozell who had not missed a game in his entire career before last season or Fabini who had not missed a game in 5 1/2 years?

What do you want me to say ok i put some thought into it and when i think of our tackles last year i think of .....

outright ineffectiveness

and of our tackles on roster

one is off a torn acl (i had the same a few months ago and im still not more than 80%)

One couldn't pass his physical with the jets, and was hurt for a huge chuck of last year

one was drafted first round then had his knee unfortunately turn into a jar of loose change

the other was a rookie who i am really high on now.
