"Blessed are the dead whom the rain falls upon." F. Scott Fitzgerald

I have a funeral today - please, no condolences, he is an aquaintance.

However, I am dreadfully inexperienced at these. Is it inappropriate for me to wear a blue shirt (with black suit), or is white the only appropriate color?

Thanks,

CR

Blue shirt w/black suit is more than appropriate. My mom wore white to my uncle's funeral and I've worn white in the past also. Just depends on how you feel about the individual.

Generally, even though funerals are supposed to be sad occasions, which is why most wear black. I've been told it's a good idea to wear happy colors, because the dead are supposed to be going to a better place. Happy colors, but not the loud and outrageous colors.

Hope that helps since it's been awhile since I've gone to a funeral.

There were several men that wore blue or green shirts w/ their suits at my husbands funeral. It was in no way inappropiate or tacky. I thought it was nice cuz they tried to bring color into a drab gray/ black occassion. Wear the blue.

The family isn't going to be concerned with what everyone else is wearing. Just that he was liked or loved enough for people to attend and show their respects

As long as you wear black slacks and nothing meant to be joking or silly (like a fish tie) you will probably not get any dirty looks or snide comments.

A blue shirt under a black jacket is very nice.

As long as you didn't show up drunk and throw up or pee into the casket - that's generally considered a no-no (except in some parts of Arkansas and Tennessee where it is considered acceptable humor, if accompanied by your sister/wife).
