read it in USA Today, where they had a front pager on covering our draft:

"dad arnt you ready to get dinner or something" (I'm paraphrasing)

that was after Jerry suggested we trade up in the 2nd rd

then they pointed out after it was over, Jerry came back into the room where Wade, S Jones and soe scouts were still working, and Stephen starting giving it to him again over how they ended up with Bennett anyway

I think that was when Jerry was trying to get support in the room to make a move up for Hardy and no one would support him.

I can't say I blame him for that one. I think Hardy could be a beast.

I think I kind of love Stephen Jones. He's going to be a great owner, and he's already a very good football guy.

Our guy Jarrett Bell got into the Cowboys War Room over the weekend, and came up with this insightful piece in the pages of today's USA Today.

There was one anectode I particularly enjoyed here, and it had to do with a possible trade up for Arkansas dynamo Darren McFadden.

Then there was the call that came into the war room before the draft. A caller identified himself as an Oakland Raiders' representative, and said he wanted to go over the details of the trade for the fourth overall pick. Tom Ciskowski, the Cowboys' assistant scouting director, didn't recognize the voice, and hung up. It was a crank call from Larry Lacewell, the Cowboys' former scouting director.

Jones never pursued a trade to move up to Oakland's spot to draft Arkansas running back Darren McFadden. He suspected it would take a three-team trade to pull it off.

Priceless. I'd love to see the video of the looks on the Cowboys guys' faces when that call from Lacewell came.

I agree. Should have moved up and taken Hardy.

Not sure what I really think about Hardy. I only paid attention to one of his games and he didnt do much in it. Then I read that he really struggled vs a couple of the betetr CB's in the Big 10, and I think if he has trouble with them, he probably isnt going to be a bigtime NFL WR either

Time will tell I guess, but I dont think he's an elite WR prospect...maybe a competent starter, but not a "gotta have that guy" kinda guy

Jesus. Lacewell's been screwing up Dallas drafts for the better part of a decade. He's now resorted to crank calls. What's next, phoning in bomb scares and drumming up fake police reports on prospects?

I'm pretty sure this has been proven as a myth.

Jerry wanted to move up to grab BENNETT sooner, NOT Hardy. They told him to be patient and they ended up with Bennett anyway.

Seems Jerry REALLY wanted the guy.

Exactly.

Crank calls?

The legend of Larry Lacewell continues to grow.

My gosh, that's unbelievable. When the Tuna's away, the mice will play.

That's what I thought as well.

i think jerry wants bennett to do slam dunks over him.

From what I understand the move up was that Jerry was afraid we'd lose out on Bennett and he really wanted him. So I believe the guys in the War Room did a great job of keeping Jerry in check.

Didn't somebody at Penn St. or OSU or somewhere get suspeneded a couple of games for doing that this year?
