Future for TNew and Barber

I think we just spent our first rounders this year with the intention of allowing these two to depart next year because of salary demands.

I think we franchise TNew and try to get someone to trade a first for a top-5 CB. Barber just walks to the highest bidder and we get the compensatory pick.

I think we extend Canty sometime during the year.

I would have preferred waiting to draft Charles or Rice at some point in the second but I can't complain about getting one of the first tier CBs.

Listening to Jerry, Barber is a lock to be signed. Even he admitted that Felix wasn't a 25-carry-a-game back, but that he was a better complement to Barber. Wade said he was sure Barber could carry the load and that he's ready to move into that role.

I'm almost surprised they admitted that so freely, because it hurts any leverage they'd have had with Rosenhaus. But I guess Jerry did the same thing with Romo.

thats stupid

Both look to be wanting $10M/yr for long-term deals. They both aren't going to get it. Tnew because he is too old and Barber because his body can't take the pounding to be worth a long-term deal.

Barber will be resigned per the radio interview with Jerry.

TNew won't be franchised due to the financial impact that would make. That is a big salary cap hit to franchise a CB.

The only point in drafting a first round RB is to put him on the field. If we are re-signing Barber I think that would mean we are putting Felix in a Reggie Bush role - part-time WR/RB to give defenses matchup problems.

I still shudder at the thought of giving Barber anything more than we have already offered at 5 years $30M.

Perhaps, but CBs have high trade value and we are very heavily invested there now.

barber will be signed, I love Newman and would hate to see him in another jersey, his contract is gonna be big though

The problem with trading TNew is simple, you trade him or let him walk, you just have to go out and draft his replacement. TNew is a proven CB who was a top 10 pick and now Pro Bowl CB. Those are hard to replace.

I think the Reggie Bush role is exactly what we're thinking. Felix said they discussed using him to spread out defenses and get him in space.

I agree on Barber. I don't want to give him any more than we've offered. But I think RJ is in love with the guy and Jerry isn't going to let him get away.
