Future Trade Bait

I read in one of the articles that the Cowboys could develop McGee and Buehler and turn them into future draft picks. Who else on our roster fits that bill?

My guess:

Martellus Bennett - We already have the best TE in the game and Bennett may end up too big of a talent to keep out of the starting line-up. I know
that we run a lot of 2 TE sets but Bennett has #1 TE talent. If Hannah and Cooper prove to be the real deal, the potential to move Bennett becomes even greater.

Tashard Choice - Great kid but will be third in line for carries behind Marion and Felix.

That's pretty much it. Scandrick and Jenkins are starter or nickel back material.

I am not saying we will or should trade any of these players, I'm just opening the conversation on what players could develop into higher draft picks. Personally, I wouldn't even consider moving Bennett or Choice for anything less than a 1st rounder.

Good thoughts. McGee and Buehler could earn us draft choices I suppose esp McGee.

I don't see us letting Bennett go. It's my sincere hope Garrett has used enough of the off season to find ways to get Felix and Bennett on the field AMAP along with another RB and Witten when possible. Bennett looks like a playmaker and this team needs that.

I suspect most of our depth will get siphoned off and I hope the FO has learned to respect youth and talent and balance it with experienced vets. Ellis is a great example.

I don't see Bennett going anywhere. He's going to make #2 TE a starting position. Witten's great, but I love having that kid on the field. I hope if McGee develops that we're in a position to trade him for picks. That could be years from now, and maybe by then we'll need him to be our own starting QB. I can't see Buelher being turned into another draft pick. Who's going to trade for a kicker? Especially one that teams aren't seeing kick meaningful field goals (well, assuming nothing happens to Folk).

Why would we groom McGee to get rid of him .Romo has said he was going to play I think was five years whatever the lenghth of his contract .if McGee turns out to be as good as the they think he will then our future qb is in and knows the system

No doubt that 3 headed monster at RB will be broken up in the future. But do you really think Choice is the one who will be leaving?

No. I think it will be Barber. Due to age, injuries and the limited life span of RBs in this league...on average.

The Pats groomed Cassel for 4 years. We'll see how Romo plays out this year..he could potentially still have 5-6 years still left.

That's exactly what I'm thinking.

Yep. Choice may turn out to be a pretty good, vocal, leader as well, something that could be very helpful. I am real interested to see how that develops this season, as he is no longer a rookie.

I don't see them getting traded. Bennett & Choice are not only b
very good back up players if a starter goes down. But they also can be on the field at the same time as the others at their position. As in 2 and even 3 TE sets, 2 RB's.

QB's & K's, no, only one at a time. So yes, they would be considered more of a trade possibility. I don't think they drafted them for that purpose. I think it would b ea wasted draft pick. You draft to help your team. Not to possibly set up future trades. Because you never know how those players will perforn. And usually a player will draw a lower draft choice than they were. Unless they perforn extremely well. Such as Romo.

I doubt a 4th rounder will get a 1st rounder by sitting on the bench. I beleive McGee will be around and given the chance to learn and develop. Now if the situation came up, for a trade and a better pick. Can not be ruled out. But I'm not buying into that right now.

with the versatility that Bennett allows on offense given our "not A-list" receiving corps, and given the success that Witten has had at tight end, I don't see Bennett going anywhere. He's really almost just an oversized, tad-bit-slow wide receiver as it is. I think splitting him out wide against smaller CBs for a jump-ball style play inside the 10 yard line when teams are expecting it to go to Roy Williams would be a good play.

How about Terence Newman?

I know he has a huge contract but it's not too crazy plus he's right at that age where his mind catches up to his athletic ability. We have a ton of young talent at DB...

I don't want it, but I'm just sayin...

waaaay premature & very short sighted. Felix might be injury prone nevermind MB showed nothing last year. Martellus isn't even worth discussing... jettison the HIGH PAID guys not the dirt cheap rooks.

too late.

if the cowboys were the eagles/patriots.

they would've franchised newman, then traded him this year.

same with barber
