McFadden on Reggie Herring

Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, who attended an NFL Combine media day at the Michael Johnson Performance Center in McKinney Thursday, said the Cowboys made a great hire in former Razorbacks defensive coordinator Reggie Herring as linebackers coach. Herring was at Arkansas the past three seasons. He served as the interim coach for the Cotton Bowl following head coach Houston Nutt's resignation. Herring accepted a job as defensive coordinator at Texas A&M before quitting after a month to join the Cowboys.

"He is a great coach," McFadden said. "He is hardnosed. I loved playing under Coach Herring when he was our interim head coach at the bowl game. He made it fun for us. I feel he is going to fit the Cowboys defense very well." Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Live and learn

While some Cowboys are still feeling the pain from the shocking playoff loss to the Giants, linebacker Akin Ayodele says he is over it.

"It doesn't sting anymore," Ayodele said. "You kind of have to let it go. It's a great learning experience. For next year, it really propels us to get ready.

Marc Colombo, however, hasn't forgotten the lost opportunity.

"It's still on my mind,'' Colombo said. "It's ging to be on my mind until we start the new season with new coaches. It was disappointing, but we still have a young team and I believe we didn't live up to the potential we had."

Ayodele and Colombo were at the Michael Johnson Performance Center in McKinney Thursday.

Those too stark contrasts doesn't surprise me at all, we need more Colombo's on the team honestly, you should never forget the lost opportunties because that's what drives you to become better and greater... I REALLY hope and pray my boy Burnett beats out Ayodele in training camp!!!!!!!

AA's attitude is exactly what they don't need.

..both attitudes work, as long as the player responds when it comes time to go back to work.

I think Akin is a good player and I really think that the MLBer spots in this defense are not impact player positions.

They are more gap players and the defense depends on the OLBers to bring the pressure and make the big plays.

After them, it's the sateties that should be making some big plays and mixing it up.

Of anybody in either BP's 3-4 or now even Phillip's 3-4, the MLBers are sort of 'steady-eddies'. Not star material necessarily.

And Akin and his play really reflect the responsibility asked of the position.

Even Brady James is not that much of a stick-out player since coming here. He's been asked to play a grinding sort of role and he's done OK.

So we'll see.

What does he mean by new coaches?

Houck? Campo? Herring?

My point was more so, does Colombo believe some of the coaches were to blame for the loss? Why did he mention that specifically in the context of next season? He also stated in the same context, that they didn't live up to the potential they had. Is that also a fault of the coaches?

He could have simply said that the loss will linger until the new season starts.

Gotcha.

I'm not sure I'm feeling you on the context of what he's saying though. I don't think he was taking a jab at last years' staff, or "throwing them under the proverbial bus", or whatever.

Maybe he's just itching to get to work with the new guys.

Yeah I didn't get the feeling he was taking a shot at the coaches. Just that he was ready to go.
