For the first time on Saturday, coach Wade Phillips acknowledged that tailback Marion Barber has had swelling in his injured quadriceps. Barber has practiced on a limited basis this week and is expected to do so again here shortly.

How this new revelation might affect Barber's status for Monday night's game is still uncertain. Phillips reiterated Barber's desire to play, but whether he will or not will be determined by Barber, the athletic trainers and doctors. Phillips said his main concern is not putting Barber in a situation where he could hurt himself worse and be out for a longer period of time.

"I want him to be healthy, completely healthy," Phillip said. "I don’t know if that means 100 percent, but I don’t want him to be in a situation where, No. 1, he could be hurt worse and you lose him for a longer amount of time. That goes with the determination of the athletic trainers and the doctors and so forth as to where he is. Because he had some swelling. He had a legitimate injury that we just have to find out day-by-day what it’s going to do and how much better it gets. But, we didn’t think it was a long-term injury, that’s why we’re thinking he may be able to play, so that’s where we are."

Anyone else wonder if Jerry's Toe-gate last year has anything to do with Barber being vocal about wanting to play?

Just wondering.

Personally, I'd sit him. We have great depth at the position and we'll need him later in the year.

I can't imagine a Cowboys fan anywhere who wants him to play and risk injury.

His status isn't up in the air. He will be active, but not play because we won't need him. Choice and Felix will pack plenty of punch for the Cowboys.

There, now everyone can go back to what they were doing. ;)

Barber needs to spend Monday's game sitting next to Jerry and Stephen

I doubt he'll be active if he doesn't play. We need the spot for Curtis Johnson and/or Steve Octavien because it was clear Spencer and Ware were gased by the end of the game.

I want to see Choice get 18 carries and Felix get 12 carries on Monday. IMO, 30 rushes should be plenty to keep the D honest and allow us to use our play action attack.

I'd say let him sit and pound them with Choice. If we can't beat the Panthers without MB then we're in more trouble than we thought.

MB3 doesn't seem the type to let things like "Toe-gate" linger in his mind.

I agree with sitting him unless the trainers are very confident the quad will be a non-issue. I hope the Barbarian is clamoring to play because he thinks the Panthers will try to duplicate what the Giants did on defense and maybe we will feature the running game for once instead of The Romo Show.

This is exactly why I'll never understand those that were saying we should get rid of one of our RBs during the off season.

Even though Barber needs to sit, I have zero worries about the running game with Felix and Tashard.

Injuries are going to happen and its nice to have that warm, comfy feeling with our depth at this position.

Why activate a player you have no intention of playing?

Especially those strained quad/hamstring injuries.

Maybe one of the easiest injuries to re-aggravate.

Wow.

You're really underestimating the Panthers. They're 10x better than their 0-2 record indicates.

I'd disagree.

I thought they were way overrated coming into this season based on having a ridiculously easy schedule last season.

And thus far, they look like it.

There shouldn't be anything up in the air about it. Sit him.

No argument there.

But to say if we can't beat Carolina without Barber that we're in more trouble than we though?

I dont know about that. They're not a bad team, just not the 2nd best team in the NFC like they were last year.

No kidding.

Why do people scream about how bad we suck all week long and then expect us to win easily the next week?

Makes no sense to me.

Dallas doesn't need to push Barber this week.

Run Felix and Choice and run them all night long.

This game plan should be simple.

1. Run Felix Jones around 20 times.

2. Run Tashard Choice about 12-15 times.

3. Throw the ball to Felix and Choice.

4. Put Terence Newman on Steve Smith with a safety over the top

5. Get some sacks

6. Don't throw picks.
