Saw below on the FWST blog. Checked but didn't see that it here so thought you'd all find it very interesting considering how some of us feel about Bennett. Must admit if it's true, it does sound like Bennett is starting to get the word via several sources, probably including Hard Knocks, teammates or his "friends" on the team. Will be interesting to see if other articles begin to appear which report similar change in his behavior. But I think it's still going to be hard to like this guy.

Walking the talk

by Clarence E. Hill

Rookie tight end Martellus Bennett’s laid-back nature and seemingly couldn’t-care-less attitude has been one of the hot topics of training camp.
Sports Illustated’s Peter King criticized him for having poor body language, while HBO is chronicling the tough love he’s getting from tight ends coach John Garrett weekly on Hard Knocks.

Bennett said he’s been this way his whole life and doesn’t care what outsiders think as long as the Cowboys are happy with his performance.
"That’s how people are," said Bennett, when asked about being judged from his body language. "It’s America. They will judge a book before they read it. It’s about what happens between the snaps that matter. For all they know, I could have Scoliosis or something. I just walk like that. But they never know. That is just the way I walk. I just walk funny."

For the record, Bennett acknowledges that his play between the snaps has not always been up to snuff in training camp. He said he’s glad he has a coach like Garrett to push him. He said he and Garrett have a good relationship.

Owner Jerry Jones said Bennett’s play has improved over the last week and his teammates agree. Bennett said he’s regularly stays after practice getting extra lessons from receiver Terrell Owens, tight end Jason Witten and Garrett.

"Only people I got to impress are Mr. Jones and my teammates," Bennett said. "As long as they are happy and they feel like I am getting better that is all that really matters."

"But stay tuned to the next episode of Hard Knocks, I think things are going to turn," Bennett said with a smile.

I love the circus Hard Knocks has created. </not>

I should really just say, I love the people who are fooled by this nonsense.

Very interesting.

It's almost as if Bennett is complaining about the very country which afforded him the opportunity to play a game that we all love and for which he gets paid millions of dollars.

I will refrain from any political parallels (as obvious as they may be).

However, I do get extremely upset with professional athletes who fail to appreciate how truly blessed they are to be paid incredible amounts of money to play a boyhood game. They are living the American dream, doing what they love, and are financially succeding.

You would think that all athletes at that level would wake up every day thankful for the opportunity that awaits them, and would see criticism in the press as a small price to pay for living a life to which millions aspire!

Sorry - that one hit a nerve!

I wish people would give this kid a chance instead of foaming at the mouth over some so called reality show.

I will give him a chance on the field but this quote bothers me and Jerry needs to nip this attitude in the bud!

His coaches should be priority #1 and he really just disrespected them right there. If I was a coach and read that he would have some rough days ahead!

"Only people I got to impress are Mr. Jones and my teammates," Bennett said. "As long as they are happy and they feel like I am getting better that is all that really matters."

I don't care who he feels like he needs to impress what does it matter? What matters is him going out there and doing the job. If he thinks it is Jerry, Teammates, Jason or the HC Phillips or some other pecking order is who he feels he needs to impress who really cares. It is like people are trying to find something to holler about wit this kid.

There have been other quotes where he mentioned the coaches. He just didn't mention them in this one. Lots of nitpicking going on with this guy.

From my perspective, on the day HK episode aired, Archer noted Bennett had his best practice yet...and per some other reports, he's followed it up with other solid practices.

I guess because camp is going so smoothly and there aren't a whole lot of position battles, we've gotta debate something on this board...might as well be a rookie's slow transition to the NFL.

Its posts like this that hit a nerve with me. What in the world are you talking about? Of course he is not complaining about the good ol USA where everyone is entitled to their own opinion even if it is made prematurely and without investigation. And how in the world do you know that he is not appreciative of this opportunity that has been given to him. For all you know he wakes up every morning and thanks God for that very same oppurtunity. You are making judgements based on clips from a reality tv show... give this guy a break already and let his play show his progress.

How was he complaining ? He stated what was true people are going to find something to harp on because you sit funny etc he just said he does not worry about it.

Here we go again people overreacting to a comment that had nothing to do with what he said

True. However, even if it's coming from a not so reliable source, the message is still pretty accurate.

Gosh I would think if Jerry and his teammates were impressed then the coaches would be too. Just because he failed to mention them does not mean he does not feel the need to impress them.
