Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis missed the combine while working on strengthening his neck and back. He flew to Atlanta to consult with the experts at the Shepherd Center, a top rehab hospital. He now is back in Dallas-Fort Worth, doing therapy at the Michael Johnson Performance Center in McKinney in an attempt to alleviate the pain he has experienced the past year.
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said DeCamillis will be ready for the organized team activities.
"He’s doing all right," Phillips said. "Pain management is really the theme. He’s been in pain. I’ve never had a player get shot up 22 games in a row for pain. I’ve never asked a player to do anything like that, but he did that. Hopefully, that’ll start going away, subside some and he’s doing some therapy to try to help that. It’s been a tough year for him."
DeCamillis was injured when the Cowboys' indoor practice facility collapsed during a thunderstorm May 2. The only game he missed was a late-season game against the Commanders when he required an emergency appendectomy.
"We have players that play with pain but not with injury," Phillips said. "I think he coached with injury. I think that was a very courageous thing he did."
