Felix has durability problem

The Cowboys obviously made the right decision to select Felix Jones over Rashard Mendenhall last year. But we now are seeing why Jones wasn't rated over Mendenhall. He isn't an every-down back, and the Cowboys are going to have to limit his touches probably the rest of his career.

Jones has played in only nine games in his two seasons and has had only 78 touches, including kickoff returns. Yet, he had hamstring and toe injuries last season, landing on injured reserve, and he has had quadriceps and knee injuries this season. He is expected to miss Sunday's game at Denver with his PCL sprain.

I asked Wade Phillips if there is a concern about Jones' durability.

"He has had some [injuries], but he had no problems in college [at Arkansas] that I know of," Phillips said. "We have had different players who sometimes get banged up, and later on have no problems. He didn't come with a history of it certainly. [Isaiah] Stanback, even in college, had a lot of injuries and then when he got here, he had a lot of injuries. That has not been the case with Felix."

ugh, here we go...

Where do sports journalist go to become experts on the sports they cover? Do they spend a lot of time with coaches as understudies, are they former players who were students of the game?

Why do sports journalist get elevated as an expert when they have no more understanding of the game as your average fan but with a paid outlet to express their opinion?

Oh well, I don't read their trash and I won't buy their publications, I guess that is all I can do to protest.

I wanted the Cowboys to get Chris Johnson but a whole lot of ppl didn't think he was 1st rd material. If the Cowboys looked at the difference between Chris Johnson and Felix Jones highlights you could see that it was a big-difference. I hope Felix get well soon. I still think Felix is a home-run hitter but his durability is a concern.

Journalists are paid to write. Get over it. Doesn't take an expert to realize a guy has missed more time than he has played and has had a handful of injuries.

Seriously. Sometimes I know its just jealousy that they don't get paid to cover the the team they love, the way these sportswriters do.

I'm not understanding the 'venom' here.

Is this sports journalist fabricating something or reporting something that isn't true?

I can see if it was a 'National Enquirer' piece trying to stir something up, but I don't see where what's being said isn't accurate.

It's just one of those "agendas" people have. They hate something so they have to stay consistent with their hate, no matter what the situation may be.

I still think it's early but it's natural this becomes a topic of discussion, IMHO...He's been hurt and it's happened often in his short career.

I don't buy the 'he didn't get hurt in college' line though...He wasn't even the featured back which raised the issue of durability during the draft, right?

MB3 is hurt alot too and his "durability" isn't questioned.....hey, at least we have Choice because the two guys ahead of him always have issues. Maybe he'll get signed long term even though it seems unlikely

i think personally that felix needs to get a personal trainer to stretch his legs etc, like emmitt smith did and zach thomas did;

Thnaks for the "kiss of death" Wade; putting Felix Jones and Stanglass in the same sentense.

"...so we now see why Mendenhall was rated over Jones, because Jones is not an every down back " ??????????????

I mean, where do they find these "journalists"....stocking shelves at Costco?

So Mendenhall has been banged up as well...and when he has played he looks like a high school RB compared to Jones....but hey, he is an every down back and was rated as such! Got it!

Nor does it take an expert to realize that there was NO REASON WHATSOEVER to downgrade Felix's draft status due to "durability" concerns unless you can read the freaking future...what a ridiculous article.

One day Felix is going to get his 200+ yard rushing game, and he's going to settle in and stay healthy.

Can't wait.

Did you guys see where Tomlin called out Mendenhall and sat him down because he didn't know his assignments well enough?

Yeah... A slacker like that (that one scout nailed it when they said he'd fold tent when things got tough) is better that someone getting banged up a little.
