One reasons for the success of Greg Ellis has been the emergence of fellow outside linebacker Anthony Spencer.

With Spencer taking some of Ellis' snaps on run downs, it's kept Ellis fresher to make a difference as a pass-rush specialist. He was relentless on Sunday against the Giants with two sacks. Ellis has four sacks in the past four games and his production is helped by playing run downs and dropping in coverage.

But don't expect Spencer to start. Being a starter means a lot to Ellis and Wade Phillips will honor that. Spencer was in to start the second series last week. Ellis has seven sacks on the season.

I think Greg will come around to this more and more if he's able to continue to do things like he did Sunday for the rest of the way.

Watching the Ravens and Steelers game I noticed the Ravens used alot of unbalanced line to contain the Steelers rush, so I expect them to do the same thing with us. So having the bigger Ellis play more is not a bad idea.

I think that vote goes to London Fletcher after this week.

I think it's pretty much always been like that for Ellis. While most D-Line/Pass Rushers are more efficient when they get less snaps, Ellis seems to be an extreme case. Unfortunately, for years we had him playing 90%+ of the downs. In 2005 he was extremely effective as a pass rusher despite getting only 50-60% of the snaps. Then we increased the snaps in 2006 and he wasn't as good, then he practically missed the first 6 games of last season and had a career year. I'm not so sure why starting is so important to Ellis, he's a much better player when they limit his snaps.
