Friday Walk Through "Highlights"

Because of cold and rainy weather in the Denver area on Friday morning, the Cowboys moved their walkthrough inside to the Broncos' practice bubble.

To be fair and honest, not a lot of exciting stuff going on. Of course, walkthroughs are generally pretty routine.

* Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said the first team offense may play a little longer on Saturday night against the Broncos than they had in the preseason opener in San Diego.

That would be everybody but quarterback Tony Romo, running back Marion Barber, receiver Terrell Owens and tight end Jason Witten.

Phillips wants to see backup Brad Johnson play behind the first-team offensive line to see how he responds to what should be better protection.

* Out for the game are defensive backs Terence Newman and Quincy Butler; linebackers Anthony Spencer and Kevin Burnett; defensive lineman Marcus Dixon and defensive back Tyler Everett.

Punt/Kick Return

Adam Jones and Felix Jones will probably see extensive duty as the team's top punt and kick returner, respectively.

But Cowboys coach Wade Phillips hasn't been rushing to throw either in just yet in the preason.

Phillips said he might give Adam Jones the chance to return a punt or two against the Broncos, but no go on Felix Jones just yet.

Expect to see Adam Jones return a few punts when the team returns to Texas Stadium for the final two preseason games.

I'm all for A. Jones returning punts (in the games that count).

I'm not too psyched about F. Jones returning kickoffs. Austin does just fine. Why put F. Jones at risk?

The dude is way better than Austin as a kickoff returner. He's also a backup so its not like your putting too much of a load on him.

If F. Jones really is a much better kickoff returner than Austin and A. Jones ... you have to think about it.

My concern is that F.J. is going to be an important part of the offense and is much tougher to replace than A. Jones and M. Austin.
