Has Ogletree ended Stanback's chances?

No question undrafted rookie receiver Kevin Ogletree has impressed coaches and would seem to have locked up a roster spot as the fifth receiver. Speculation is that the Cowboys will keep five wide receivers, which would end Isaiah Stanback's run with the team. The injury-riddled former QB from Washington hasn't done much in time with the Cowboys, but it's clear that Wade Phillips does like his athleticism and could yet make room for him on the roster.

"He's big, strong and fast and you always want to give those guys an opportunity," Phillips said.

Stanback needs to make the most of his opportunity Friday at Minnesota.

"It’s just like any other game to me," Stanback said. "I have to do what I’m supposed to do, and if I get opportunities, I’ve got to take advantage of them."

Stanback's other problem (outside of Ogletree) is the injury situation at LB and DB.

We will probably have to carry an extra defensive player (or two) given J Williams' injury and M Hamlin's injury.

That's what's wrong with this team. Stanback has had opportunity he hasn't come through he shouldn't be on the roster along with a couple of other players I don't feel like ranting about.

We were already likely going to carry another ILB (Hodge), but if we don't IR Mike Hamlin, then I can't see us having room to keep Stanback.

I think Stanback's only chance is to have a great game against the Vikings and force the team to keep 6 receivers.

If not, like others have mentiioned, needs in other areas will seal his fate.

The only person who has ended Stanback's chances, if they are gone, is Stanback. You either do enough to be kept, or you don't.

How many different ways and how many columns are people going to write about this. Ogletree has won, Stanback has lost, why keep asking the question?

Adios Stanback

Good luck with your next team

Yeagermeister, very nice recognition of Pops...I'm sure he'll be watching the 'Boys along with the rest of us. Thanks again for putting it up here for us to see.

Yes, I agree...Adios Stanback.

I just don't see him ever making it on this level. When he finally got a catch last game, his first in the pre-season, he actually fumbled and his returns look pretty uninspired especially when considering the urgency a bubble player should demonstrate.

According to Nick Eatman, Stanback never really had possession and Wade should've dropped the red flag. In any event, Stanback should've held on to that pass for dear life.
