The Cowboys head into Sunday's opener with fingers crossed that DeMarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Bradie James and Keith Brooking stay healthy. Because of injuries to backups, Bobby Carpenter is the lone interior linebacker on call, and undersized Steve Octavien and rookie Victor Butler are the outside guys that are healthy.
Even Wade Phillips, who tends to see the sunnier side of things, knows if the Cowboys need any of their backups to play substantial time, things could get dicey.
"I don't think we're there yet certainly with our backup players," Wade said. "They know what to do and I think they'll play hard. I think they'll make more mistakes then I would like right now, but I think they're working hard at what they do, so I think they'll come along. But, I think most other positions we're a lot stronger as far as the third guy."
