CB Terence Newman has returned to practice for the first time since the first week of training camp. He has been out with a slight groin tear.

Will Terence Newman be Cowboys' No. 5 WR?

He did go through the passing lines with the receivers at the beginning of today's practice.

I'm just kidding about reading anything into that. Newman routinely does that when he practices.

The news here is that Newman is practicing for the first time since pulling his groin during the first week of training camp. Not sure whether he'll play in the preseason finale, but it looks like he'll be ready for the season opener, as anticipated.

"Groin," "tear," and "slight" should never be combined in the same sentence. :omg:

In all seriousness, nice!! Welcome back T-New!!

Good. Now hopefully someone can step up and make some noise at guard.

TNewman should NOT play in the last preseason game!!!! Look at all the injuries, no way.

I wouldn't play him the last pre-season game either.

Let him work his way slowly but surely into playing shape. No need to risk an injury so close to the season opener.

There is not a single starter I would put in that game, not a single one. And a few non-starters as well, including Felix Jones and Sam Hurd. I hesitate with Pacman, but he seems to get better every week with "real game" experience, so I might give him a quarter, but that is it.

I think the Giants were foolish to have Osi in there, especially on an artificial surface. I'm glad we didn't get dinged more than we did. If it takes your starters a game or two of regular season play to get completely warmed up, so be it. And of course, your guys can get injured early in the season, but even getting one regular season play out of them is something.

With Osi, they get exactly nothing now. A total nothing.

Broaddus just said on 103.3 that TN would rather not play in the final game and that he feels great and is ready to start the season.

I think you have to let him get some type of real playing time before the season starts.

Look at Pacman in his first game. Thats what rust does. Newman hasn't played a live game since last season. The guy needs to get some work before the season starts.

You guys has to stop being so affraid. Something you just have to do even at the risk of injury. The trick is to not over expose yourself.

I Agree. I think if he's 100%, he should play in the last game. Maybe only one series, but he should play. I'd rather not have his first play against another team count if possible. He's been out for weeks. Get him a rep or 6 before it matters

TNEW came off the bench last year and not only took Tory Holt, he handled him. I think Holt caught one ball on him and it was for about 10 yards. That was his first action of the season.

He will be ready to go.

Newman is a 5 year vet. He played in all the offseason stuff, and the first week or so of camp. You cannot compare him to Pacman, who basically played two seasons before he had his "vacation", which makes his last meaningful football in December, 2006 before coming to Dallas and learning a new scheme.

T-New will be fine. He's got more experience, much less time off, and already knows the schemes.

Newman Back On The Practice Field

Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman returned to practiced Monday for the first time since the first week of training camp
Newman, who has been out with a slight groin tear injury, could even play this week against Minnesota.

Head coach Wade Phillips said two weeks ago there was a chance Newman could play in the preseason finale and even Newman stated back before the team broke camp in Oxnard that he planned on playing some in the preseason.

If Newman does play this week, he likely won’t have many first-teamers around him. Most teams typically rest key players in the last preseason game. The Cowboys sat down 17 players in last year’s final exhibition game in Minnesota.

Newman’s injury has opened the door for rookie Mike Jenkins, who started the first two preseason games at left corner. Last week, the Cowboys gave Adam “Pacman” Jones the start with the first-team.
