Tony Romo played in six games this season but in that short time, he took a step back in one category. In his first two full years as a starter, Romo three 33 interceptions with a high of 19 in 2007.

He had a goal in 2009 of reducing those and he was successful, throwing only nine picks in 550 attempts.

This year, however, he already had seven interceptions in 213 attempts and even though some of those were tipped, interim coach Jason Garrett said Tuesday that Romo has plenty to work on once his shoulder is fully healed in the off-season.

IIRC I think at least 3 of those were on tipped balls that the WR should have caught. Those were hardly his fault.

As much as people want to hate on Eli, there's a quarterback who has been plagued by tipped balls for interceptions all season.

Almost all of his INTs came off of Miles' hands. Shouldn't be hard to fix.

No way his % INT was going to be as good as it was last year when it was outstanding.
But it was in line with his career numbers and we are talking about a small 2010 sample size taken during a 1-4 start.
No doubt that % INT would have decreased through the year had he not gone down.

So it's really a non story/issue.

What NFL player doesn't have a lot to work on this off season?

That is why, for years, I have felt there should be a seperate stat for the receiver to be credited with tipped INTs. When the ball hits the receiver in his hands, it should be caught and not by the other team.

There is tons of work for him to do this offseason. One of which is develop a great relation ship with Destination.

I would be really worried if a lot of those he was throwing right to the defenders, but as I recall, they were mostly off tipped passes.

A quarterback is always trying to improve on stuff and I have no doubt Tony will come back ready and hungry.

I believe all but 2 of there were off tipped balls, and I think 2 of those tipped balls should have gone for TDs.

The WR's need to work on catching the f'in football when it hits them in the hands.

Of if it bounced off the hands, to the foot, to the defender in Witten's case. That was insane. :laugh2:

Tony's ball control was very good this year. There were a couple of issues like the pick off of Austin in the CHI game where the CB was able to peel off of Dez's route because he didn't run the CB off enough that bit us. Some bad luck, and some crossing routes we seemed to have stopped running for a while until we got bit on it again off of Miles in the PHI game.

I'm not worried that Tony regressed in this area. It's too important. If anything, it'll be interesting to see what further strides they can make on this area in the offseason.

Tony is one of the things we don't have to worry about.

Seriously. Do these writers even watch the games? The guy leads the league in completion percentage and was the highest rated QB in the NFC at the time of his injury. A majority of his picks were off his receivers hands or tipped and his INT # is a concern? Simply moronic.

Was that this season...?? Man it's been a long year.

Edit: Nope that was the first game in Cowboys Stadium. I knew it seemed like a lot longer ago. lol

That was the first home game against the Giants last year. Still it's the kind of thing that happened early this year. Ok maybe that was more bizarre but you get the point.

more drivel from our lousy excuses for local sportswriters.

Put a better OL in front of Romo (or any QB for that matter) and he will be a better QB.

Oh, and run the ball more, both with the runningbacks and with the quarterback. Look at what it's doing for Kitna.

Romo had a higher percentage of interceptions this year in part because of line play. He was running for his life most plays and with how little we were running it only made it worse.

If we can put a decent line in front of him he'll put up awesome numbers for us.
