Sam Hurd and T.O. are cool
I caught up with Cowboys receiver Sam Hurd at the Texas Relays and he was perturbed that it reported that he threw receiver Terrell Owens under the bus after his release.
Here's what Hurd said when he commented that T.O.'s release was going to help quarterback Tony Romo.
"I know it takes a lot of pressure off Romo focusing on one main feature, like Terrell," Hurd said. "As a guy like him, he demands the ball and it made you want to try to get him the ball. With him being released [Romo] doesn't have one main guy, so he can look at every one of us and see whichever one is open on any play and get the ball to him."
It was interpreted that Hurd was siding with Romo in the catfight with Owens that eventually got Owens released. And considering how Owens mentored Hurd since taking him under his wing as a rookie, it was seen as betrayal.
What wasn't reported was all the good things Hurd said about Owens before that quote. Hurd said he talked to Owens and he understands how it was taken out of context. He and Owens remains good friends.
But Hurd said he is not about taking sides and that nothing will preclude him from working as hard as he can for Romo. He has already been throwing with Romo and said his focus is on supporting his quarterback and his team to make 2009 a great year.

Actress Jill Marie Jones is a T.O. fan
Count actress Jill Marie Jones among the Cowboys fans sad to see receiver Terrell Owens gone.
I caught up with Jones, who starred in the sitcom Girlfriends, at the Texas Relays this past weekend in Austin. We were staying at the same hotel and she actually followed me and some friends to the Texas Spring Football game.
She grew up in Duncanville and is a lifelong Cowboys fan. She is also a former Cowboys cheerleader. Now that her Cowboys resume is complete.
She admitted that she is not happy the Cowboys got rid of Owens, whom she considered a friend. She also said he didn't get near as much credit for the work he did in the community.
But alas, she remains a die hard Cowboys fan.
Of course, I invited the beautiful and down to earth Jones to come to training camp in San Antonio this summer. She declined, saying she would be shooting a movie. But she said she will attend a few games at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
Look for her in the upcoming film Drool.
