Senior Bowl -- Day 1

The Cowboys have arrived at the Senior Bowl to scout the workouts. But they will also be in the process of identifying new assistants for the expected openings on staff.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips and the rest of his coaching staff -- minus secondary coach Todd Bowles, linebacker coach Paul Pasqualoni and defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers -- are here in Mobile, Ala. Those three assistants did not sign contract extensions with Cowboys and are expected to soon bolt to Miami with Tony Sparano.

Word is Sparano and Bill Parcells will not be in Mobile, likely staying back in Miami to put the new staff together.

Here are some tidbits from the first day, watching the South practice at Fairhope Municipal Stadium among the mass of NFL assistants.

- Ex-Cowboys offensive lineman Erik Williams attended the South practice. He is living in Delaware and helping a buddy agent of his by coaching his new clients. Also, former Cowboys defensive lineman Leon Lett (an Alabama native) was hanging out at the Senior Bowl hotel headquarters.

- Odd seeing former Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer sporting a Bengal cap. He is the Bengals new defensive coordinator.

- Spotted Cowboys scout Tom Ciskowski, now the lead man after Jeff Ireland is in Miami, keeping a close eye on the South cornerbacks. That position expects to be one of the Cowboys' draft needs.

- Texas receiver Limas Sweed was being interviewed after practice by Cleveland Browns scout Paul Warfield, the former Hall of Fame receiver. It was apparent Sweed didn't realize the greatness of this moment as a fellow receiver. Pretty sure he had no idea who Warfield was.

- The two coaching staffs for the Senior Bowl are San Francisco and Oakland. Watching 49ers assistant Mike Singletary, who interviewed for the Cowboys head coaching position last year, coach linebackers is a treat. He has a commanding presence when he's teaching.

Umm, WG. I need information on the draft choices, not dull small talk about what ex-football players were there!

NOW GET BUSY! ;)

The Cowboys are all here at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
Jerry Jones is expected to watch the two practices today between the North and the South.

Dallas will lose three coaches, we believe in Kacy Rodgers, Todd Bowles and Paul Pasqualoni. Wade Phillips said Monday night he will conduct some interviews here in Mobile if he loses all three coaches.

Some other notes:
The Cowboys held some personnel meetings on Monday night. There are some hard decisions that need to be made such as Terrell Owens' contract. Does he get an extension or not? My guess is that he will. Does the team cut Terry Glenn? Probably. What about Bobby Carpenter? Do you put him on the market?

I'll get back to you guys later in the day with more stuff.

I think Ownes gets an extenstion everyone saw how the offense was without him, he stays in shape for his age and still is playing at a high level. Glenn is gone, can't see anyway they can justify bring him back at his current salary. Carp. was a Parcells hire so it would make sense to see if Miami is interested.

These are fun times. I'm excited not just about who we're scouting, but about who we hire to replace the guys that leave. I really think we can get some good coaches with Wade's long time in the league and contacts plus Jerry's money.

Hey FWST and DMN writers: We need an article on Tom Ciskowski. This guy basically is now our lead scout, and we know next to nothing about him.
