The Other Roy Returns
Given the amount of fun the Cowboys have had this week, it's pretty easy to forget that Roy Williams is returning. In an effort to distinguish one Roy from the other Roy, I'll go with Boomer Sooner Roy and Bevo Roy.
Boomer Sooner Roy plans to play this weekend for the first time since he broke his forearm in a win against the Eagles in Week 2. It's fashionable to kill Boomer Sooner Roy for his pass coverage skills, but there is a reason he is the starter. At the very least he should help in run defense. He said he plans to wear a protective brace on the forearm.
I asked him if the brace will hinder him in any way and he said, "It feels good."
Take that to mean yes.
“The only other time I’ve been hurt and missed a game was my junior year of high school,” Williams said. “This was horrible (not to be able to play); not to be out there and help the team. I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. Or not anybody who is competitive and wants to play. … You’re sitting there watching a game and you feel like, ‘Maybe if I was in there it would have been different.’”
No guarantees this Boomer Sooner Roy makes the difference between a win or a loss, but it's safe to say he's better than Pat Watkins or Courtney Browne at strong safety.
