TCU defensive end Tommy Blake, who has seen his draft stock plummet after a trying senior year, is scheduled to workout for the Dallas Cowboys on Friday at the team's Valley Ranch headquarters. He will be one of six Frogs participating in the Dallas Day workout designed for draft prospects from local high schools and colleges.

Blake's saga includes being treated for depression and social axiety and missing five games this season. His weight has also bounced up and down since the season ended. He still has the talent (4.75 in 40) but comes with a giant risk attached.

Valley Ranch blasted by winds

The Dallas Cowboys' Valley Ranch headquarters in Irving took quite a battering from Wednesday night's high winds. Large tree branches were littered across the sprawling complex which looked like a tornado had rolled through. These branches (pictured) were broken off and covered a portion of the parking lot near the front entrance.

The straight-line winds, which reached 75 mph, also did some damage to the roof of the headquarters which created leaking in the public relations offices.

Blake apparently is a real head case, but if he gets his head straight and will get in shape he could potentially be a good pass rusher in the NFL...the problem is even if you get him "right" you will always have to wonder when he will fall apart again

The weather wednesday night was pretty severe. I was in north fort worth yesterday and there were trees down all over and moving truck upside down in the middle of the road. The north side of I-30 got some pretty hectic wind.

So if he is a head case and we keep bringing in these different types of head cases wont it eventually catch up to us or does no one care?

everyone cares. He said he received treatment for what was bothering him last year. CBS 11 did a piece on him back at the tcu proday a while ago.

It will be interesting if he is hanging around in the 5th 6th or 7th round.

I would definitely be interested in Blake in the 2nd day. He's a 1st round talent. I watched him absolutely abuse Doug Free in a Bowl Game last year. He may have singlehandedly dropped Free to the 4th round.

Goose wrote a short piece about his Pro Day a few weeks ago.

He could be this years Chris Canty. You cant have too many pass rushers and especially at that outside linebacker spot.

Awhile back, I made a mock draft or two including Blake. I thiink he is worth the gamble in the later rounds. He was expected to be a top 5 pick heading into this year. The talent is there.

For a team that has pretty good talent all around, we can afford to take a gamble like this. And if he has been treated and is fine, I think its a smart gamble.

Wade loves nothing more than a pass rusher.

And Jerry loves nothing more than a reclamation project that he perceives to be a bargain.

And he's right in Dallas' backyard. He dropped almost 20 lbs. from the East West Shrine Game to his Pro Day. His pro day was a month ago, so he could be back down to his more natural weight of about 260 by now and dropping jaws at the "Dallas Day".

There's a lot of things that add up.

He's worth a shot in the second day, why not?

I say no thanks. I wish this kid well, but this sounds like the same condition that crippled Underwood and Spellman. And as we know, they couldn't play well when on medication and couldn't stay in control when off meds. This is, unfortunately, a no-win situation for the Cowboys, and it might not be the best thing for the player...

I've been thinking that he would end up a Cowboy. We'll see...

Blake checks in with Jerry

While TCU's Tommy Blake was reluctant to talk today, he did stop for a second and reveal something of significance.

"I pretty much had a good day and I enjoyed the coaching and the people I met," Blake said. "I met Jerry Jones and he seems like a nice man and very respectable."

So could Blake be another Jerry Reclamation Project? Well, if the price is a low-round pick, it's hard to see why not.

If you watch the video above, it's pretty clear what Blake's capable of, and that kind of upside has always gotten Jones excited. The bouts with depression and social anxiety disorder, the absence from his team, and the weight gain that rose concerns during his senior year can't be dismissed. But Jerry's always been the type to see people for what they could be, and Blake certainly felt encouraged by his meeting with the owner this morning.

"He told me to stick with it and everything will turn out all right," Blake said. "I loved it here."

Blake's main concern now, he says, is showing teams he's serious about football to the degree you have to be to excel as a professional. Did he make that impression on the Cowboys? Draft day might bring you an answer to that.

Two of my sleepers are at Dallas Day today with Blake and Terence Wheatley. Wheatley will go in the 2nd round, so I don't know how much of a "sleeper" he is, but I like him better than a several of the CB's slated to go in the 1st.

I believe I just read that Malcolm Kelly scheduled an emergency workout to run the 40 in the Valley Ranch parking lot Wednesday. He felt confident he could break a 4.6 in those conditions.

No one is going to draft him, but he would be a nice potential Undrafted FA.

Social anxiety? Thats some serious stuff right there. That is a very debilitating disease, and wether or not he is a good player that is going to make him a pariah in the locker room let alone that he is dealing with these issues.
