Wade carrying on tradition

At the Cowboys kickoff luncheon, Wade Phillips made a lap around the team's Ring of Honor telling what all the ex-Cowboys meant to him.

Manster, Captain America, Captain Crush...he had all the nicknames in the holster. Wade also said a lot of his defensive coaching philosophy was based on Mr. Cowboy -- Bob Lilly.

At the end of his speech, he started naming off the Cowboys best teams of all time. No, he didn't say this team was next in line. He says he's a coach, not a predictor.

``We will have a lot of great players,'' Phillips said. ``We will have a lot from this team that somebody will talk about one of these days.''

Wade did predict the 2007 team will play, ``with heart.'' -- Thanks coach.

I love to hear this kind of stuff. Instilling a sense of tradition, pride, and honor amongst the players, coaching staff, administration, and even the peanut vendor, is what helps make a franchise great. I'm gratified to hear Wade shares in these feelings and this philosophy. There is a torch that is passed, and I am glad to see he holds it with respect, and wants to ensure it continues to burn brightly into the future.
