Should the Cowboys take a chance on Ricky Williams?
By RAY BUCK and NEWY SCRUGGS

If Ricky Williams gets reinstated (eligible April 25) should the Cowboys – sans a power running back – be on the phone ASAP with the Dolphins and try to trade for him?

NEW DAWG: Ricky Williams is not worth a draft pick. He is no longer a difference-maker. I think the Cowboys have had their fill of players with substance-abuse problems.

BUCK: I’d normally agree with you, Newy (well, not really). There are a lot of bums, high-risks and salvageable players out there. Ricky Williams, who would come cheap if the Dolphins choose to unload him, is in the latter group. He turns 30 in May. He’s already turned around his life. Besides, what do the Cowboys have to lose? They sign him. They bring him to camp. They don’t have a Ricky Williams-type back on the roster. They really should consider him.

Each Monday, the Star-Telegram's Ray Buck and NBC 5's Newy Scruggs go at it in a point-counterpoint on the sporting issues of the day. E-mail Ray Buck at rbuck@star-telegram.com. Newy can be reached at his Web site, www.newdawg.com .

An obvious attempt to generate interest in their their opinion by raising topic of Williams coming to the Cowboys. Even Jerry Jones won't take this bait.

But Seriously
I'd bring in Ricky if he was released by the Dolphins.

On his NFLN interview he said that with all the yoga and meditating he does he feels better than he felt 5 years ago.

I'd take a chance on him.

Miami would never trade Ricky Williams...I think this past year showed them how badly they need him to compliment Brown. I've never been a big fan, but I'll bet Ricky Williams has a huge year in Miami this season.

some people never learn I guess

Ricky Williams would be the 3rd best RB on this team (if he even made the roster)...bringing this bozo in sends a pretty pathetic message too

I wouldn't take the bet but only because I don't know where Ricky stands with the league. If he's allowed to play this year I'll bet he has a decent year for a 30 year old back. He's not taken that many hits and his legs should be young enough. I doubt he's lost that much talent. So why not. We don't need him because Barber has his role tied up. Miami could use the guy unless they want to use a draft pick in a RB poor draft.

He said that 2 years ago. I bet he's more at peace with mother earth, hugs trees and recycles metals to make peace signs outta them.

He's achieved his inner-galactic oneness, obtained his golden medallion and is a model study at the Ashram.
