COMBINE NOTES
Receiver confident in his perception of top choice
By CHAREAN WILLIAMS

INDIANAPOLIS - Georgia Tech receiver Calvin Johnson is the top rated player in the class of 2007 by most accounts, including his own.
"I definitely feel that way," Johnson said Saturday. "I mean, not many people have my size, speed and strength."
Johnson measured 6-foot-5 and weighed 239 pounds. He had a 45-inch vertical jump, but he will not work out here. He said he is saving himself for his Pro Day on March 15.
Johnson said he has no doubt he will run a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash, but he is working on a 4.3.
He met with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who might end up with Johnson with the fourth choice. Oakland is expected to draft LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell at No. 1 overall, and the teams with the second and third choices, Detroit and Cleveland, have used high first-round picks on receivers in recent drafts.
Blalock impresses
Texas' Justin Blalock and Texas Tech's Manuel Ramirez each bench pressed 225 pounds 40 times to lead all offensive linemen.
Blalock also ran a 5.10 in the 40-yard dash.
The 6-foot-3, 320-pounder's stock is rising because of his productivity and his versatility. He played in 51 games in his college career, and he can play guard or tackle.
Wisconsin's Joe Thomas, the top-rated offensive lineman who could go to the Lions at No. 2, ran a 4.92. Only Texas Tech's Gabe Hall (4.91) and Missouri Southern's Allen Barbre (4.84) were quicker among offensive linemen. Texas' Kasey Studdard ran a 5.18.
Miami's Greg Olsen was the fastest among tight ends with a 4.51.
TCU represented
TCU offensive lineman Herb Taylor measured 6-4, weighed 296 pounds, bench pressed 225 pounds 26 times and ran the 40-yard dash in 5.19 seconds.
TCU teammate Jared Retkofsky, a defensive lineman is also here. TCU safety Marvin White was scheduled to arrive Saturday.
Ballard to get a chance
TCU quarterback Jeff Ballard was not invited to the combine, but he will get his chance to impress scouts March 2 at the school's Pro Day.
Jerry Rhome, a longtime NFL assistant now retired, will arrive in Fort Worth on Tuesday to start working with Ballard. The two will spend three days together.
