NFL NOTES
Colleges, high schools in TV plans
Wire Reports
The NFL television network will debut a weekly college football preview show next month as it looks to expand beyond the professional game.
The 30-minute telecast, beginning Aug. 21 and airing Tuesday through Friday, will be marketed as the "ultimate primer" for Saturday's premier college football matchups, with a secondary focus on the players most likely to be selected in the top rounds of the NFL Draft.
Charles Coplin, vice president of programming, said the college show is an extension of the network's "All Things Football" mantra and a harbinger of its expansion into college and high school programming.
"It's the natural evolution of where this network is headed," Coplin, 44, said in a telephone interview. "Ultimately, you'll see more live events at all levels, with news and information on the players who could someday play in the NFL."
The four-year-old NFL Network already televises the Insight Bowl, Texas Bowl and Senior Bowl college games, plus selected spring football practices and the draft. The network also has televised high school football games between all-stars from Louisiana, Texas, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
