Mini-camp Day 1 wrapup

It was a wild first day of the Cowboys three-day mini-camp at Valley Ranch....Here's the wrap up.

* WR Terry Glenn wants to be released and is not willing to sign a $500,000 injury settlement. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he had agreed to the waiver. But he has apparently changed his mind.

* WR Terrell Owens missed the practices and will not attend the mini-camp because of a death in the family, according to two sources.

* Wild weather rolled through the Irving area and cut short the morning practice under ominous clouds.

Here are some of the practice observations from the afternoon workout...

* First, the biggest thing noticed...Cowboys sponsers attended practice and we saw a first -- a mini-bar had been set up in the corner of the indoor facility for all to enjoy. There were two margarita machines. If only Bill Parcells could have seen this.

* Rookie CB Orlando Scandrick intercepted quarterback Tony Romo with his big moment since he arrived.

* Bye-bye: NT Jay Ratliff blew past center Andre Gurode in one-on-one line drills. Ratliff may be even quicker than last year off the line.

* We saw it: DE Marcus Spears whipped his way past big Leonard Davis to get into the backfield in the one-on-one line drills.

* We saw it II: LB Bradie James with blanket pass coverage on rookie RB Felix Jones. Jones dropped a little swing pass that was thrown behind him and James was all over the play.

* Felix Jones can hit he to the outside with lightning quickness.

* CB Terence Newman never misses a beat. He intercepted Brad Johnson on a pass intended for Isaiah Stanback.

* WR Sam Hurd was making plays all day -- morning and afternoon. Last week Miles Austin, this week Sam Hurd. That's why Wade Phillips feels OK about his WR depth.

* How about that? Rookie TE Martellus Bennett made a impressive diving catch from Brad Johnson in the end zone to beat SS Roy Williams during the two-minute drill. We know what you are thinking.

* WR Patrick Crayton beat tight coverage from CB Orlando Scandrick for a TD during the two-minute drill. Scandrick popped the ball loose just barely after Crayton reached the front corner of the end zone. Crayton was confident he made the play saying, ''That's a touchdown, don't worry about that.''

Time to start the "Mike Jenkins sucks" posts since Scandrick was written about twice and Jenkins wasn't mentioned at all. :laugh2:

That's ok, as if Wade was not leaning towards a change and playing around with Henry having TE responsibility the more he sees of this now the less we will have to see of it during the season.

Who gives a rats *** what Bill Parcells thinks now or even if he was here? It was for the freakin' sponsors not the players. If Jerry wants to schmooze the people that help him keep the organization going, more power to him.

Which tells me that the pass was perfectly place to where only the receiver had a chance to make a play on the ball, no matter who was covering him. Go ahead and make the insinuation that Roy sucks out of that play, just shows your ignorance.

1) Jay Ratliff is going to be starting in place of Spears sometime this year.

2) BIGG must have been winded..

3) Bradie James and 'blanket coverage' should never be used in the same sentence. Ask John Kitna about Number 56.

4) A TE beating a Dallas SS... No way..

5) Just shut up Crayton, you suck.

At some point this board needs to realize it's divided on the opinion of Roy Williams. Accept the fact and learn to accept that each side is going to voice their opinion with out becoming a name calling 4th grade tirade.

Your opinion of Roy is different them mine, so be it. Do I think your ignorant....not in the least. We might not agree if chicken wings are better deep fried or baked, hot or mild or served with blue cheese or ranch dressing. I don't find the need to dig out the book of insults over that and I don't see why it's needed over Roy on this board.

To be honest with you, it's not this topic that has caused myself as we as other to avoid this board lately, it's the way people act and the things that are said about it. It turns from a football discussion to watching some children slap fight.

FYI, it's pretty standard for most DL to beat most OL in one-on-one drills. Don't read into it.

Yea but this play is mentioned because the defense did something. When you actually see the practice you don’t mention all the times Spears got sat on.

First off, let's just come to an agreement that you have NO IDEA what my opinion of Roy Williams is.

Secondly, I did no name calling whatsoever. If one chooses to immediately call out "Roy sucks" because his name is attached to this particular play, then it highlights a personal agenda and a lack of intelligence of the game. If a spectacular diving catch had been made in which nobody could have possibly defended it took place with Newman, Henry or Pacman, would you have immediately insinuated "they suck"?

Furthermore, my comment was not directed at you or your opinion, because quite frankly, I don't care. It was, however, directed at the writer who purposefully disguised his comment to intimate and incite another "look, Roy still sucks" diatribe.

The difference between chicken wings and football players is that one is completely subjective and the other is not. So that's a pretty poor comparison to say the least.

If you think judging football players is completely subjective, well there's where your problem begins.

huh? Forming an opinion based on the way you preceive something no matter if it's chicken wings or a player is all the same thing.

I may say Newman is slow and you may think he's fast. I might be comparing him on a level to Deion Sanders to form my opinion and you may be comparing him to Anthony Henry to form yours.

I don't see the difference, we all have different bench marks for making our assumptions and opinions. There is no universal bench mark for forming an opinion on Roy Williams not is there for chicken wings. It's each individuals perception of what they believe a player should play like or a chicken wing should taste like.

Which is the higher number?

The answer is objectively verifiable. Even if you form a different opinion based on how you perceive the numbers, it doesn't make it the right opinion.

Ok so, what is the benchmark to form an opinion on Roy Williams and chicken wings?

I'm not trying to argue, I'm just trying to find out what it is we both should be looking at to form an opinion.

4 is the benchmark we are using to verify 5 is the higher number. Makes sense.
