The Forth Worth Star-Telegram is speculating that RB Anthony Thomas could be cut by the Cowboys.
It doesn't seem likely, especially with Marion Barber III undergoing minor foot surgery last week. However, as coach Bill Parcells said about predicting who will be cut: ''Don't guess. You will be wrong.'' Aug. 29 - 9:32 am et

sorry for repost.

Seeing as he is our only veteran running back, I don't see us cutting him.

Dallas will keep A-Train in my opinion because he is a tough north/south runner, I think we will see him quite a bit in short yardage situations as well as a guy who can give Jones a breather

Yea, I think he makes the team.
Makes more sense than any other back aside of Jones.

He also smashed a blitzing LBer on one of the big pass plays while he was in...

No way he gets cut, heck "Butter fingers" Barber would before A-Train!

BP would never leave us with two rookies at running back if JJ went down.

I'd be shocked it A-train was cut.

The Rb's kept should be in this order

Jones, Thomas,Barber and Thompson and I probably am in the minority here but Barber and Thomas are much better than Thompson. Thompson is a one trick pony, he has no inside running ability and very little wiggle. He can get to the outside against 2nd and 3rd teamers and I don't think he would have much success at all against 1st team defenses.

Barber and ATrain, on the other hand are very good inside and have made some nice runs up the middle and hit holes well. Thompson has not!

That description of Thompson sounds a lot like ReShard Lee :D

I wouldn't be surprised if he got cut due to a bigger need at another position. Obviously this Thompson kid needs some carries per game and I think his upside is much bigger.

based on what ive read on the board, were in the minority, but i happen to agree with you. i dont think thompson has inside running ability either, hes too straight up when he runs, and he hasnt done anything on returns i dont think anyone else couldnt do.

he could make the outside runs against first team defenses bc speed is speed, but not consistently, since once hes in, defenses will key on the outside run since he lacks inside running ability.

great story being from irving and all, but i dont think so.

It is not so much of the speed factor as to why I don't think he would be able to get outside on 1st team defenses, it is the containment factor.

All preseason in different games when the 2nd and 3rd teamers get in you see a lot of long runs to the outside and I beleive it is because the young guys are not that good in keeping containment. Ware is a case in point, he struggles with containment when he plays DE.

I think you guys are being too one-dimensional here with regards to A-Train and Thompson and Jones.

I think all three make the team and here's why.

If they all stay healthy..and Barber recovers and will make the team..of course..you have some possibilities at RB that might be devastating we haven't even seen yet.

Picture this, both JuJo and Thompson in the same backfield....? Or A-Train and Thompson or JuJo and A-train..? Not just single substitution of one player for another.

Yikes.

I can easily see this in regular season. And I don't think we will see any of this in pre-season as Parcells doesn't want to tip this offensive wrinkle before it's ready.

Another variation is Thompson split out to the slot or going in motion downfield with his speed. I don't think any LBers and certainly no 1-on-1 matchups can keep up with him and if JuJo is also in the game, the defense has to respect his ability to break a big one and blitzing could kill you quickly if those guys get outside containment.

My big question about Thompson is can he catch the ball..?

If he can..there are some bigtime options to use as the season goes on.

The biggest issue is the health of the RB's and keeping them fresh and the OL and it getting settled and used to blocking for these various styles of RB's.

Hmmmm...
