Four yards to glory, & lots of Jerry's cash

They are 14 seconds that many Cowboys fans will remember forever, that around-the-world trip Tony Romo took Sunday to pick up 4 yards and a game-breaking first down.

Thanks to some amazingly high technology, we were able to read Romo's lips on the replays and, thus, can provide this second-by-second account of Romo's run that illustrates just how cool he is under pressure:

:01 On third and 3 at the 50-yard line, center Andre Gurode snaps the ball over Romo's head. Romo: "[Probably cannot be printed in a family newspaper.]"

:02 Romo turns to chase the ball, which still is in the air. Romo: "Man, Andre, that snap would have gone over Big Tex's head. With him standing at the fairgrounds."

:03 The ball takes its first bounce at the Dallas 35, with Romo 5 yards behind. Romo: "What would Brett Favre do? What would Brett Favre do?"

:04 The ball takes its second bounce at the Dallas 31, with Romo still 5 yards behind and seemingly chugging up a hill. Romo: "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can."

:05 At the 29, Romo begins to bend over to pick up the ball, which is starting to settle inside the 28. Romo: "If I had a contract past this season, I'd play it safe and just fall on the ball."

:06 Romo picks up the ball with both hands at the 27, but his left knee makes contact with the ball. Romo: "[Definitely cannot be printed in a family newspaper.]"

:07 At the 24, the ball flies out of Romo's hands and lands at the 21. Romo: "Brett Favre would retire right here on the spot; that's what he'd do."

:08 Romo corrals the ball at the 17 and turns to his right to avoid two Rams defenders in pursuit. Romo: "I bet right now my coach is over on the sideline comparing me to Roger Staubach."

:09 The two would-be tacklers eluded, Romo turns upfield at the 18 to see the nearest person is teammate Marion Barber III, who is running toward Romo. Romo: "Hi, Marion."

:10 Romo passes Barber, who slips at the 20 while trying to change direction. Romo: "Bye, Marion."

:11 Romo slides through the left arm of Rams linebacker Raonall Smith. Romo: "Nice try, Raonall. You may have been All-State as a junior in high school, but we ain't in Gig Harbor, Wash., today."

:12 At the 33, Barber joins the parade, to Romo's right. They pass left guard Kyle Kosier, who is headed in the opposite direction to block Smith, who has fallen to the ground. Romo: "Why do I keep meeting my guys going the wrong way?"

:13 Still flanked by Barber at the 42, Romo sees the first-down marker and tucks the ball into his body. Romo: "I know this is about to become one of the greatest runs in Cowboys history, but carrying this ball is nothing compared to carrying Carrie Underwood's purse at the Country Music Awards."

:14 Romo gains the first down at the St. Louis 47, then steps out of bounds at the 46 as Fox announcer Joe Buck exclaims, "First down, Dallas! Unbelievable!" Romo: "If you think that's unbelievable, wait until you see that guaranteed contract I just forced Jerry to pony up and offer."

Now that kids is an example of breaking down film. It's very unlikely that Mr. Thomas took this from a TV Broadcast. Take some notes on this lesson - all of you quasi-journalistic wannabes.

Hilarious. I'm inclined to think that our great QB was muttering some phrases initially under his breath best not said in public. Wonder what the Rams might have said to him on their sideline. Guess that's probably not printable either.
