Its interesting that BP has gotten more out of late rd and discards then he has with first day picks on the O line. Say what you want, getting a whole seasons start as a rookie for a 6th rd pick (Petitti) is doing quite good. THen someone that virtually everyone had given up on is now our solid starter at RT (Colombo). Now we have McQ who could end up as a starter at LT, or at least quality backup at both tackles. For a 7th rd pick. Gurode who was a guard for two years and nothing all that great, then on his second and clearly last shot-that apparently was also BPs call- wins the job at Center and ends up in the Pro Bowl. On the other hand you have ROgers, a highly regarded pick from a major program who turns out has no heart. Peterman-the real mystery- apparently just not quick enough- another highly regarded pick from a major school. Those are the two biggest busts in all ways that we had on the BP watch. Then there is Johnson; we did get two decent years of starts from him; so its really hard to call him a bust. He was another highly regarded prospect from a major program.

I really fail to see why so many are so eager to kick Colombo to the curb. He gave us a very solid year at RT; he is relatively inexperienced and should get better; and he should get stronger with another offseason to condition and weight train. He was a legetimate first rd prospect= so why are so many so eager to dump him- especially when you consider how badly we have stunk at RT for so long.

or maybe there's a reason he graded "F" and we'll see that soon enough.

if you can read, the answer is clear, he only had 1 year of starting experience at the Div II level, he's as raw as they come, notice the weakness in this scouting report are technical and experience? the talent is there, someone just needs to harness that talent

If the Cowboys don't pick an oline guy in the first round, Iceberg starts that slow meltdown!!

Color me amazed that a thread titled Pat McQuistan Scouting Report has gone on for 4 pages.

This has got to be the most press he has ever received.

You know that the page length can be adjusted to hold 40 posts on one page, don't you?

Yeah, if I remember correctly he didn't have the grades and wound up in junior college and only had 1 year of eligibility at Weber State. Still, pretty smart move to take a gamble on a guy like that in the 7th round.

YAKUZA

He pitched for the BB team and didn't play football. Had nothing to do with bad grades as far as i can find..

Well he'd better firing up the air conditioner cos I don't see a OL being drafting by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1st round this year.

but i can't read. it really messes me up when i try to write.

and if you could read - (return sarcasm fire!) you'd see i had to "re-learn" what the "F" grade really meant. no need to really harp on it now unless you want to argue from a historical perspective of which i'm no longer a part of.

But I don't want to see us have to blow a draft pick on a top 5 OT this year-- not if there is a decent chance McQ can start in '08 for Adams-- provided we don't resign Adams. Then McQ can replace Colombo in '09-- provided we don't resign him too.

We have too many other holes at this point. I'm much more concerned about our depth at center/guard than I am tackle.

those are sound and fair arguments of which i happen to simply disagree. but if we're talking BPA when we draft and it happen to be staley or a OT, i'm on it. cause my logis simply says i'd rather go w/1st day talent than a longshot an 0'er at the position coach "likes".

if bp got some "good" calls on the OL i'd be more apt to care what he thinks of mcq. till then please, lob all the positive press at me you can. that'll do it. >g<

when you look at the schoolyards and you see who's picked last, do you sit and go "my god, the talent everyone overlooked" or do you go "damn it - he's gonna be on my team"?

sure the damn it's can work out from time to time, but i'm not gonna count on one if a good pick at a good time says OT. if he pans out what a great problem to have.

oh you silly past-living people. you never paid attention to the "why's" - just focused on the short term.

we addressed it with
colombo stepping up, resigning
davis
bledsoe being gone.

one of my disdains for the line was that parcells KNEW bledsoe needed top notch help but he didn't provide it, did he? w/romo it's less of an issue but i'm still sticking to my basics, that's all.

but go ahead and overstate things and totally miss *why* i felt we needed to address the line better than we had, and NOW most of those reasons have changed/or been addressed - but keep feeling like i demand OL in the 1st day when i already said i'd like it but it won't be a priority. : )

damn reps sure can be hard to shake.
